Generic Rebel (on a budget!)

Well, I haven't done much more with this as I have diverted all power to the front defle- no, to the corporal Rostock build I'm nearly done with.

But, I have waxed the jacket after all, and initially I was happy with it.

Then I wore it a bit and the wax began to crack and whiten on the surface. Which looked horrible.

So, I did the only reasonable thing, and attacked it with a heat gun.

Now it's much better, but blotchy. I chatted with Otter Wax, and was advised to use an iron with no steam to set it into the fabric. I can't find my 1940's iron I used for waxing skis back when I had free time. That would be perfect I'm sure. Now I just mess with it between other stuff (like waiting for paint to dry) when I have time.

I'll probably sell off some of the bits to offset the (considerable) expense getting Rostock on line, if you see anything interesting.

We actually had two army-navy places, walking distance from one another. One was an independent, with all sorts of cool stuff. I bought some nice NATO combat boots there years ago. TONS of uniforms from every branch and every era. ZERO reproductions. Prices were a bit higher, but generally if he didn't have it, no one did. That place did not survive COVID unfortunately. The owner was older, and I imagine his wife decided it was time to call it.

Then the "chain" place which survives to this day. Actually not bad, but predominantly reproduction/new make (Rothco / Tru-Spec) stuff. I did find some British pouches I needed for Rostock, and for considerably less than the going eBay rates (plus high shipping from Europe). And I like to support the local people. If we don't, they will be gone. I'm usually in there a couple times a month looking for something... Their advantage, as a chain, is they can "see" everything on their computer system. I got a really nice backpack (with daypack) they had in another store, and brought to my local store for me.

I'm sorry to hear about the one shop closing. Most of the businesses in my town closed down before Covid. Awesome that you can get stuff sent over from other stores. They don't do that where I live. One of the disadvantages of a small rural area.
I hope your Rostock build goes well.

I’m in there about once a week poking around. If you’re looking for something specific, let me know and I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you.
