First Predator Suit Build From Scratch *painted*

Dayum, that is one kick ass Mr I suit process, doesn't even look like you used a muscle suit. Keep up the good work bud

Fantastic thread...great breakfast reading. I like you seem to have bought the poor mans muscle suit and love how you have created more muscles. Could you explain a bit more how you created them and got them to attach to the suit. I'm not getting the string part.

Cheers

Cheers all! Picked myself up an Iwata airbrush today so next few days will be spent learning how to use it.

I started with the front of the suit, (you will need at least 1 initial layer of latex directly applied to the suit prior). I stretched some stocking material over the areas I wanted to build up muscle or define it a bit better. To secure the stocking I just sewed it to the suite along the edges in a few places. Next I stuffed the areas with pillow stuffing. Roughly stuff in how much material you want to build up, initially when you stuff it the surface will be lumpy and will kinda look like cellulite, just massage it into shape and add remove stuffing until it smooths out and you get the basic shape you want. To create some more defined lines I then used string and needle. All you do is sew a knot at the whatever starting point you've chosen, run the string along the area you want to create a sharp depression, pull it nice and tight, then sew it off on the suite at the end point. (hope that makes sense). It's important to have the initial latex layer on the suit as it creates a sturdy base to sew into and pull tight without ripping the original materal. You basically repeat the process for the rest of the muscles, depending on how detail you wanna go. Once you've created the desired shape then just start layering with latex (suggest that you remove the string guides after the second coat. Unfortunately it's hard to create curved lines with the string, but I found thick metal wire works well (bend it to the curved shape you want, wrap around the suit and twist tie it with pliers until it makes the depression your after (there's a bit of expirmenting needed for this). If you are going to try metal wire you will need to do after you've applied the latex. Although need to warn it may discolour the latex which cannot be removed with additional layers (you can see around the rib cage were the latex has gone brown/green, I used copper, not sure if all metals will do this). Easily fixed with a few coates of paint :)

Honestly, your work is fantastic !! really love the head sculpt and dread rings design.
You did also a fantastic work on the suit too !

Many thanks for the advice on the suit. Was not want to end up like a malnutritioned Pred. Like the polystyrene balls idea for texture and am going to use that as well.

Cheers for taking the time to reply.

when i am building the body suit i use quilting batten . it comes in sheets and i can contour the edges by cutting them at an angle and i dink them in latex and squeese it out and apply it that way . and then add the cotton to the top for extra bulk. hope this helps.

Hi All,

So many broken links :( Will need to fix that up.

If anyone can recall this costume was meant to be finished by late october 2012 for my mates party. Unfortunately the suit ended up being waaay too small for me, meaning I had to put the build on the backburner for a while. This was due to the duct tape dummy not being sufficiently stuffed and initially being wrapped on too tight.

Since then I have decided to give it another crack for an upcoming costume party.

First and foremost I needed to make another duct tape dummy. This time we applied the duct tape in strips and ensured it was stuffed to bursting point.

Measuring it up it still need more "girth" (didnt want to take any chances). I added layers of insulation and foam to beef it up, may be big but at least it will fit me.

Next I thought I would have a crack at the neck rings. I used foil and duct tape to shape my neck, then attached it to the dummy to give a base to work on. Next I threaded coat hanger wire through a vacuum hose to shape the first ring around my shoulders, then gradually superglued each ring to the desired height.

I also started to cast the trophies (there's a few more I need to do). These were basically glove moulded around a clay mould with silicon, then cast with Polyurethane resin.

I bought a mexican wrestler costume HOPING it had some decent muscle shape, but as usual I got stooged and would have been better off with a set of pyjamas. Nevertheless I slipped it on and gave it a layer of latex.

This time the muscle shaping was a breeze, same method as last time, stocking, stuffing and string.

This is after 3 layers of latex, IMO it is looking MUCH better than the last one.

Next step is the back, then adding some detail :)

Jeez that must have been severely not happy when the first suit did not fit, worst nightmare. Had you painted it as well?

Hope you managed to sell it on....

Good to see your back on track and as iv'e mentioned before love the idea for creating the muscles.

cheers

Thanks Sean, when I was halfway making the suit I already had the suspicion it wouldnt fit. For that reason I pulled it off the the dummy before I painted it to try it on, suspicon was correct. Unfortunately in an effort to salvage it I cut it into a two peice, then a three peice, and so one but no luck. Now the suit is in many peices, could possibly put it back together and sell it... maybe lol

While at the time I was devistated, ultimately the finished costume will look better :)

Made the first steps to creating the hands. Cast my hands in Alginate to create a mould from clay. Being the dumb**** that I am, I cast my right hand twice instead of Right and Left. I only realized once I pulled the Alginate of the second mould that I had cast two right hands..... eeee aawww.

Now I need to buy more alginate :(

Some more updates :)

Gloves sculpted, will be casting them very shortly

Also made a start on the gauntlets. The blades are just balsa, resin, body filler and painted chrome. I also decided to add some predator style symbols along the length for ***** and giggles. Gauntlets are a mixture of foamies, nerf darts, expanding foam, resin, filler and a few odds and ends for added detail. (This is the second set I made as wasn't happy with the first set). Still need to add some detail to the underside but you get the idea :)

More updates shortly!

Awesome work man! Your suit will be killer. Are you going for any specific style of pred, or going custom?

Cheers :) not going for any one particular style, just kinda putting bits and Peices that I like from different preds and some of my own twists
