Limited Run Dewy's and Anakin Starkiller's Qui-Gon Jinn lightsaber sign-up thread!!! PRODUCTION COMPLETE. Photos on pg 13

I paid extra to have the PO mess with you. Glad to see they're following through ;)

You weren’t kidding. Both boxes showed as out for delivery as of 6:10am. 1 box got delivered no issue, the other:

Oh my. The had the same address, of course. Not sure how one was insufficient. Did you get the one with two sabers or with three?

Ha, I know. You sent me the picture of the labels, they were both identical. I received the box with 3 sabers.

Regardless of shipping shenanigans, these turned out way better than I ever hoped!!!

My mail person was running late so He took it back to the post office with him. It happens, HOWEVER the tracking shows it's being held at the post office at the request of the customer. That is obviously bull$hit the post person said to explain why he didn't deliver. I guess I have to call tomorrow and see what I have to do to get my package. Not your fault, just frustrated.

By the way I was home... I checked the mail box three times.

Sitting down and really looking at this thing, I have to say that all of the subtle wanks and wonks and imperfections are truly stunning. Right up there with the equally-stunning Obi-Wan TPM replica. Perfectly imperfect.

I’ve never owned a Qui-Gon saber, nor even held one made by another vendor. Ever. This is my very first, but it looks and feels just right.

Looking forward to the livestream discussion.

Really pleased to have the set together… now to figure out a means to display them.

Ill probably tinker with the weathering and finish a little knowing me View attachment 1951589

My OCD is nagging at me in that the finish on the black parts is flatter than on my Obi-Wan replica. Do I dare repaint it to match? We’ll see.

I’m sure the paint on this replica was chosen with care and specificity, but the screencaps and whatnot from the film do look to show more of a sheen to the black.

I owned a Master Replicas version, that I sold off, years ago…my recollection is that it was a brick, in terms of weight, compared to the Starkiller / Dewey offering.

The Qui-Gon hilt is, in my mind, the most ergonomically comfortable hilt design, between the OT and PT. As strange, celibate monks, comfort and ergonomics always seems to have been the last thing on a Jedi’s mind when they went into their “Force trance” and created their hilt. Go figure.

Great job on the hilt, guys. Thanks for making this awesome replica available.

Yeah, this one is quite light, especially compared the the previous Obi-Wan replica, which is rather heavy.

And’s it’s very ergonomic. I believe Neeson has been quoted as saying that he chose the design specifically for that reason, since he knew it would be more comfortable in the hand than some of the other designs during all those fight scenes he’d be shooting.

Here’s the thing…you can see where Obi-Wan took inspiration from the Qui-Gon hilt for his own Elder Jedi Hilt. The grenade section, the cup-shaped emitter, the end cap…all echoes of this hilt. It’s pretty neat when you see it through that lens.

Also, Anakin’s Youngling Slayer 6,000 hilt clearly took design inspiration from the aluminum sleeve on the Qui-Gon hilt.

Of course…I’ve always assumed that the “guts” of the Qui-Gon saber were salvaged by Luke and incorporated into his ROTJ hilt.

While there’s no direct evidence to suggest it, I sorta think the whole “Ewan chooses his lightsaber” footage from the behind-the-scenes material may well have been staged for the cameras.

The Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan designs are stylistically similar, and both stand out from the council saber designs. And the design Ewan just so happened to choose was the one which most closely echoed the ANH design, with the pommel cubes and ribbed center section. Maybe it’s a coincidence.

As for in-universe: Yes, it’s long been theorized that Luke used Qui-Gon’s saber parts/crystal when building his own. There would be a lovely symmetry in that, both thematically and because, chronologically, Qui-Gon’s saber is the very first lightsaber activated onscreen, and Luke’s is the very last one deactivated onscreen. Like bookends to the story.

I expected it to be light since it's mostly plastic, but I was still surprised at the weight of it in-hand. My only prior experience with the design was the all-metal Label, which is also a little larger.

Yep. The Obi-Wan is noticeably heavier, thanks to all that metal.

And, this being my first in-hand experience with a Qui-Gon saber, the thing which really struck me was the length. It’s only slightly longer than the Obi-Wan, but its slim and sleek design just makes it feel really well-endowed, so to speak. Long and slender.

That also jibes with the “That one might be good for Liam, because he’s taller” bit from the “Ewan chooses his saber” documentary footage.

Before repainting it. You might want to try buffing it with a little 0000 steel wool. The shine on the original varies over the body of the saber, I think, due to wear. If you want a little more shine, steel wool can help.

Thanks!

It should be noted that this replica is absolutely, perfectly, awesomely fine just as-is. That said, the more hardcore among us will doubtless want to tweak it for weathering accuracy/personal taste.

Personally, I’ll probably lightly sand and smooth the sharp edges of the four cutouts on the aluminum body shroud, since I can feel them when handling the saber. And I’ll probably give the emitter plate a light sanding to simulate the belt-sanded look of the original.

And I may well buff the black paint, as suggested, or just repaint it with Satin Canyon Black for consistency with my Obi-Wan saber. We’ll see.
