BSG - If you can't buy it, make it!

Here you go, MM!

CIC phones are blue/grey as well. It's just the dark lighting on that set making them look black.

Nice shot of the CIC phones here:

Clearly they're the same color as the rest.

No offense, but those stickers aren't very accurate. The fonts are all wrong except for 2 buttons.
The entire phone should be in the same font as the pilot nameplates.
I've started making the correct letters in Photoshop, but I haven't gotten a phone yet for scale. I'd be happy to share my file when done.
Bobatrek has obviously done some great work with that typeface so perhaps he might have a go at it too?
I looked closer and agree the font is close but not dead on, the symbols look great to me, so its just a matter of finding the right font. I wouldn't say the stickers aren't very accurate, used the wrong font. He does have one button wrong and the 2 missing buttons he made 501 ( for the 501st) and GLG ( for the Great Lakes Garrison).

as for the size ,i have a phone here and the measurements are.

Buttons are 3/8 x 3/8

the Station 14 circle is 2"
the sec/hall sticker is 2 " 3/8 x 3/4

No idea on the real font. I've looked at a ton of fonts lately and did all the font finder sites too. No luck.
I'm thinking it might have been custom for the show.

Seeing the button art bigger, it looks better. I think it's really that Galactica font at the bottom that looks out of place - the A and the 4 particularly.
It also stands out to me that there are 3 different types of "O's" on the sticker sheet. Maybe I'm just being picky since I've been staring at the letters a lot lately.

Thanks for the dimensions! I'll give the stickers a try myself this week some time.

This is gonna be sweet - my phone should be here any day.

Thanks for all of your hard work you guys!

Best thread ever, IMO... :thumbsup

I emailed him and he mentioned that he knew it was not exact, it was the old BSG font. I gave him a link to this thread , i'm sure that will help him out alot. Plus with the better pics here he will see that a few buttons are wrong also.

I am going to the auto parts store in a few and am going to start testing colors on the phone. I'LL BE BAWK.

Wait a tick,,,,, Look back a few pages at Bobatrek's posts and look at his siggy, is that the right font? I think so. :confused

This should be easy enough... I'll start this week.

Damn I want want of these

I couldn't find the font out there either, so I had to vector it. I'm not 100% satisfied with it, but for smaller print items it'll pass muster. I am currently working on the numbers.

well i think its damn close, can't wait to see what you come up with. Great job , i can't believe it was staring us in the face :confused since the very first post.

Ok i think i have a pretty good paint scheme going here

The flash really gives it that blueish color, because the paint job is mostly grey and black

A secret touch is I rubbed in some ash from my fireplace to dirty it up some.
Here is a link to all the pics so far.

Hi Guys, I'm Monolith21's brother. I'm the one that found the CIC Wall Lights and threw that picture together! I just registered, and meant to post this when I got a chance on the RPF as well, but only got a chance to do so on ASAP the other day! Either way, thanks for posting it, and getting the word out! I look forward to helping out with anything else I can find in the future! And I'd also just like to say great work to all of you, it is amazing reading through these threads and seeing all the hard work you have done!

Looking good although the two knobs below the handset are supposed to remain black.

What's your inbetween coat? grey primer or silver?

Yeah i relized half way through painting that i forgot to tape the knobs off and will have to repaint them black after it dries. I did tape off the 4 knobs on the side , you see what i mean when you get your phones.

I first painted it silver and let it dry , the next coat was an automotive paint called emerald green.

Then i LIGHTLY sprayed it with a dark grey automotive primer , then a misted it with flat black rustoleum.

The weathering is the part that really made it work. After i scratched it up some with 60 grit paper ( lightly on the corners to see the silver underneath) i buffed the whole phone with 120 grit till you could just start seeing a hint if the grey and green. THe finishing touch was the ash from my fireplace, that really gave it a great weathered look.

You might be able to remove the knobs and soak them in turpentine or something to remove the paint.
