Re: Blade Runner 2049 Guns & Props by JoatrashFX

I’m almost done with the model. Currently testing optimal print setups. Should be ready to take orders in a week or two.

Small update. I'm doing more test prints this weekend. The model is more or less finished, I'm just fine-tuning details, size and fit. (Every time I change something I have to redo all the cutouts for the electronics, lol.) I'm on the home stretch though. Have started looking at sourcing a supply of solenoids (Getting a supply of 10-20 pieces of the exact is a bit of a challenge, since I'd rather not get them from China but either a US or European seller.) I will probably do these in runs of 10 MAX, and stop at 20... maybe... each copy will take long to print because I'm going for a quality level that I haven't done before (the trigger guard alone takes 14 hours) , so I can't promise a run of more than ten. We'll see where the final print time lands at. I'm also looking at maybe doing offering custom serial numbers for them for an extra cost.

Do you consider using the 3D printed part for making a resin model - or partially resin? That would keep the production times lower, plus sanding 3D printed parts is tough, resin works fine.

Build thread and quality of printed parts looks very good...

It looks beautiful!

Thank you!

Almost there. Will start collecting orders soon. I have a semi-local source of only 10 solenoids and I have to get them before someone else does as ordering from China would be less desirable.

Also... did some more testing and tweaking, and the power switch will be set up to work like the screen pistols, i.e. hidden inside the receiver.

Did a quick average calculation today... and a wild estimate has the research, modeling, tweaking and prototyping time (not print time, but actual modeling, testing and design) at around 300-360 hours so far... yikes! It's probably not going to beat my "Firefly Vera" kit in time spent working on it, but it might beat out my Star Lord helmet in the end. Time flies...

I'm putting in a first order for electronics tonight. Managed to get hold of 11 solenoids, so 10 for the run, then one extra just in case. Will be calculating final cost soon as well. I don't think I can hold the 250 cost... looks more like 300 with all the electronics and some outsourced parts. I'm trying to get print time down BUT I kinda have an extra goal with this kit too: to make it so that as many parts as possible will not need several coats of filler-primer like PLA plastic kits usually do! There will still be the usually sanding and such, bu the usual "heavy grind" associated with printed kits will not apply. That's my goal anyway. (The downside is that it take a longer time to print.) A couple areas will still need a bit f heavy sanding though, most notably the trigger guard, because there is no way to print it in one piece without heavysupports... and it it will end up much nicer (and more durable) as a single piece!

Whew... after this kit... and the Orville blaster.... I might need a break...

Solenoids have been ordered. I will loosely assemble everything with the electronics in the next couple of days to double-check that everything works and post a video. Once that is done, I will take orders for the first ten.

Sorry I didn't see this before. Sometimes the RPF doesn't message me when replies come in!

The way the gun is set up- hollow, with internal channels for wiring and such, casting most parts would be extremely difficult or even impossible. (I also couldn't guarantee the mechanical stability and tolerances of parts.) I don't know if you're familiar with the kits that I have done in the past, but in general they are a lot smoother than most "home prints" made on a filament machine you see. And with the K blaster, I've done my utmost to make them come out even better. That's one reason it has taken 4+ months to develop the thing! : )

PMs are going out to all interested shortly. I will take on a first run of TEN copies, made in batches and shipped in order of payment. (Each kit can take 1-2 weeks to make, printing every spare minute I am at home.) One they are done, I might do another ten provided I can get more electronics.

Very few orders in so far out of almost 50 interested... run is nowhere near full, which is rather worrisome, so I would appreciate if anyone that wants one and has received a PM get back to me ASAP as supplies have either already arrived or are on the way, and parts are printing as I write this...

Thanks!
