Also curious myself as I currently have a very similar jacket conversion project in the works right now.
I don't want to post any names but your friend with the Vest is actually a shared acquaintance of ours, I've become pretty good friends with him lately. Though I don't live nearly as close to him as you, I'm in Canada.

What do you mean by conversion?
I'm also converting some genuine vintage Guess Georges Marciano denim Jackets/Vests into a Marty McFly style jacket, almost exactly like this project except using a slightly different technique. I just haven't posted anything about it yet.

Oh! I've always thought about that myself. You should definitely post about it, then!

I have a question for Indy. Let's say I wanted the jacket to have solid white lining with the motorbike logo like the original jacket. Would I then have to send in my own fabric?

I can answer that. No it is not required that you send in your own fabric. But if you want vintage denim that's faded like this you would.

I'll buy a headgoonie 2021, send it in and have them use it for fabric lolll
I'd wait until later this year to see what their 40th anniversary jacket will look like. A possible scenario is that they get the colors right but not the patterns. You could then get their biggest size to have enough fabric for Magnoli Clothiers to use the new patterns they made from the Guess vest I sent them.

I was only joking, but that's not a terrible idea!

Contributing here to show my real Guess jacket after updating the lining and leather patches.
Re-used the buttons that were originally on the leather patches, lightened up the blue and the darker jeans was also a vintage 80s George Marciano Guess jacket, so everything is 100% Guess apart from the Hollywood and paisley lining, but really happy how it turned out!
I know it's not screen accurate to keep the Guess logo on the pocket and I am pretty sure the Hollywood lining was going across the entire back but I really wanted to keep what originally identified the Guess jacket.

I've also given a good clean on the buttons but keep forgetting how effective brasso is haha, but most of the buttons were almost pitch black so might give it a little vinegar and salt lotion to bring back the vintage brass, but I do like the clean buttons!

That was the jacket prior modifications:
