AVP was worse that Commando.
They already made a movie that satisfied the Predator fans- its called Predator and Predator2.
AVP grossed $80,281,096 in the US. Their budget was $60,000,000
Predator grossed $59,735,548 in the US. Their budget was 18,000,000
How sad. What a sad franchise this has become.

I know this post isn't likely going to put me on too many "friends list" here, but I'm getting sick & tired of all the time wasted on "AVP bashing" of which has been running rampant here in the Lair lately. What's really stupid about it is many of the same people here who post much of this hate-filled slander of how they're soooo against the first AVP & hate everything this film was...ARE THE VERY SAME PEOPLE WHO'VE CREATED AVP STUFF HERE, INCLUDING FULL SUITS, WEAPONS & A WIDE ARRAY OF OTHER AVP MEMORABILIA!!! (See "HYPOCRITE")
Maybe I'm just the only one here who is not afraid to admit that AVP DID HAVE SOME PRETTY DAMN COOL NEW ELEMENTS & BELIEVE IT OR NOT...ACTUALLY DID HELP CREATE A WHOLE LOT OF OTHER GREAT THINGS TOO!!! If, in reality there actually ARE that many members here who really do hate AVP soooooooo much, than why would so many here continue creating items that are based on the AVP designs!?! I can't help but get the impression that nothing will ever please any of you other than P1 & P2. Yeah, the AVP storyline did have some pretty weak points, but it also offered a lot of really cool stuff as well. It's just common practice for Hollywood these days, however unfortunate it may be. If you truly want to create a change in that trend, then you first have to BE the change you want to see & not just wine about it in every post you make.
Now, I've also gotta give credit where credit is due on this one...regarding Mel's creations in particular. I've been a huge admirer of all Mel's simply outstanding works of art. Mel's stuff is always in a class all its own for a number of reasons, including always being exceptionally original & flat our top notch in every way possible. Mel, your creations are by far, some of the most awe-inspiring, jaw dropping, amazing & incredible designs I've ever seen. I feel strongly that it's a huge loss to the film's franchise in general that you are not regarded as a top consultant for what the design concepts are for any of the creature costumes featured in new Predator films, since your works are easily a much higher quality & caliber than anything seen in ANY of the movies. Yes, that also goes even for the first two films as well.
I've also noticed a few posts heavily scrutinize the difference in the look of how the Predators moved in comparing P1 & P2 to how they moved in AVP. Well, in P1 the Predator way originally meant to swing from tree to tree like a monkey, but since it was filmed b 4 CG became a reality, they had attempted to do this effect by dressing up an actual live monkey in a Predator suit & film the ape swinging from branch to branch! Thank god that idea was completely tossed out the window because the monkey kept ripping off most of the costume's parts. This just goes to show you that not everything that was done in P1 was something to be worshiped for all time. Yes, it was & still is a great film, even in comparison w/ much of the crap that Hollywood attempts to shove down our throats today. Films that can stand the test of time are few & far between, if not even more rare than that. But, to simply hate everything else that's not exactly the same as P1 or P2 was is quite arrogant & also means that you will never again find satisfaction whatsoever within any of the new Predator films made.
I can't believe I'm even saying this, but it's actually gotten to the point here that dozens of people are sounding like (& have the same effect of) that old man who sits on the porch all day, going on & on, blabbering about how everything was sooooo perfect back in the ol' days.
THINGS WILL ALWAYS CHANGE. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE & THEREFORE, UNAVOIDABLE. SOMETIMES IT'S FOR THE BEST & SOMETIMES IT'S NOT. IN MOST CASES, IT'S JUST BETTER TO FIND A WAY TO APPRECIATE & ENJOY WHATEVER THE POSITIVE ASPECTS ARE FOR CERTAIN THINGS & NOT WASTE TIME CRYING ABOUT THE NEGATIVE.
This is why I'll always be a fan of AVP. It may not have been the film you specifically wanted to see, but it's what you got...so, quite cryin' about how you were disappointed by some parts of it & focus on the parts you actually enjoyed. Watch it w/ the mute function on if you have to. If this still doesn't work, go make your own version & have fun w/ it, because you're starting to ruin some of the fun others may be having & trying to make others feel the same negative way towards something that you may believe is infallible.
