Atomic Bomb Models?

Cool!

Well, like I tend to do when I get hooked on something, I beat it like a dead horse until I eventually find something to take its place. I may be at that point. With neither small scale model complete, I've started a new, larger scale version. Built around a cylinder cooler for a defunct energy drink that I swiped from a pub many years ago, I proudly present the Little Boy Beer Cooler(TM):D It stands around 6' tall, and will hinge at the bottom of the cone.

Now I just have to find someone who can do metalwork to help me make the compliment to this - the Fat Man Outdoor Grill (Patent pending).

Got more sanding done on both small models but forgot to take pics. But I got the fin assembly for the large scale version routed. Here is a test fit of parts.

Nothing much to show on the small scale models right now, but the cooler is coming along nicely. Here, the fin assembly is mostly completed. In the 2nd pic, you can see the fin details. I wish I'd thought of it earlier, but I'm going to see how I can add some small internal speakers and an Ipod connection to the tail section.

Finally have a little more progress on these projects. The cooler version stalled while I waited to get a large enough scrap of 080 styrene (cheap) from work to wrap the main body. Now with that done, the rest should happen rather quickly. Here are 2 shots showing the base skinned and also test placement of antennae housings.

I've heard of Atomic grilling... but that is rediculous! ;) But hey, we have grills shaped like football helmets. So why NOT have one that looks like a first generation Plutonium atomic bomb? :D

Nearing the finish line on the cooler. The faux rivets are in place, all exterior paint is complete and decals are applied. The antennae assemblies aren't quite done, and are just taped in position for now. Just have to finish those and get a hinge and It will be done!
