Atomic Bomb Models?

Touchy subject but it is being handled very well. I don't think you can compare a concentration camp to the bomb, while both killed many people they had totally different objectives.

I don't see a problem with displaying a model of the bombs depending on what your reasoning is. What I do have problems with are people that have an Adolf Hitler, Rudolph Hess, Hermann Goering action figure displayed anywhere. :confused

A little off to the side of topic but I wonder how the post office would react to a description of "atomic bomb model" on a package (no matter how small). :eek

Just watched "Trinity and Beyond" last night and was reminded of this old thread.

The Nuclear Race is just utterly fascinating.

It might be easier to ship if the box is labelled, "Marital Aids".

I'd buy them as kits, I think a lot of folks would who are history buffs. I wish I'd gotten that old set of ICBM models that one of the companies had out in the 90s too. I actually just want a Fatman model for my Fallout display since the bombs in the game are basically that style.

At the risk of resurrecting a dead post, I do at least have something to add.
I often thought an atomic bomb model would be pretty cool. And although the Masterpiece version seems pretty nice, I like scratchbuilding stuff. So just to get motivated to start a proper model, I decided to practice with the paper model listed above. Its my first papercraft model build, so its lacking quite a bit. Not to mention, its a pretty simplified version and everything didn't fit perfectly. Still, I was surprised at how the general look came out fairly close.
I since purchased another highly detailed one from Ecardmodels.com and will start on it soon. After that, I'll then decide how to go about my own build.

I finally got the Ecard paper model printed and the body assembled. I printed in on thin styrene with our flatbed printer at work, hoping that it could just be used as the final piece. But due to my limited paper building skills, and general limitations of this type of model, I'm going to have to just use it for the basic shape, seeing as the curves aren't smooth and there are lots of gaps. Since I've never done pepakura, I'm not sure what I could cover this with, in a thin layer, so I can sand it and smooth out the curves. I know most people use fiberglass, but I'd rather used something else. Any suggestions?
Here it is compared to the original paper model I made. It is in 1/24 scale

Interesting model!

I think Little Boy might've made for a better pepukura modle. Fewer curves.

I wish there was a model about the size of a football. That would be such a great and weird conversation piece to have sitting on your shelf.

That msnbc article is so weird to me. It's alright to have models and toys of every tool of war but try to make a model of an atom bomb and you are overstepping some line of decency.

Yeh, those are the ones I saw. A bit steep for my wallet. So far I'm only out $3.95 for the paper model. I can get all the sintra and styrene I want from work. Add a little paint, resin, etc., I should be able to get a decent representation for under 20$ and a little time.
I already bought the "Little Boy" version as well, and will start it when this is done. Maybe I'll weight them and use them for bookends.

Back in the 80s/90s one of the big model companies put out a kit that had several rockets/icbms in it both US and Soviet and it's never been remade since either. Apparently nuclear weapons are a no no for kits.

You know, I look at these images of Fat Man and the first idea that pops into my head is "Happy Easter" with it all painted in yellow zinc chromate... weird.

BTW, A-model now does a 1/72 scale kit of the 50 megaton Soviet monster, the "Tsar Bomba"

That was a monster; pbs' Secrets Of The Dead actually had a large portion of an episode dedicated to it.

Couldn't agree more. And on a weird side note. This was my high school emblem, no lie.
