Apollo A7L Moon Suit

Was looking forward to launch day but the mission was just scrubbed; oh well more time for sewing!

Got another arm on, I managed to get the sizing right as I can shimmy into this with the zipper undone quite easily but it's not too baggy. Couldn't wait to get the left arm sewn on so I'll have to hand stitch the US flag when it arrives.

Gonna need a shave and a haircut when I sport this for Halloween haha.
No watch yet??

Yeah no kidding! I'm hoping someone pops up with a snoopy cap template otherwise that's going to be a lot of trial and error.
same here. I spent several hours last night learning that I'm not really adept at making patterns, but after some trial and error, and lots of referencing Mr Nagata's posts, I got the arms and shoulders patterned and sewn up today. Waiting on more fabric to be delivered on Saturday before I can move on to the torso.
Yours is really coming along and looking good! Hopefully I can be that far at the end of the weekend.

Installed the pressure release valve today. Screws are temporary until my slotted ones come in the mail. Starting to add the little detail parts to the suit gives one the impression of getting close to the finish line.

Awesome discussion points! All of my ref photos of Buzz's suit show that fitting and diverter as being silver. But you would know more so I'll take your word they should be blue and adjust accordingly!

As for the H2O and electrical connectors, they are just placed there for the photo, I have not cut the suit for them yet. I'll be sure to mount them properly. :)

That is just fading in the anodization. For some reason, different connectors faded at different rates. But they should all be red or blue, like Imgill said.

I've had to stop work on the suit proper as I've run out of fabric! A few weeks for more to arrive so I'll be looking to work on other bits and bobs.

Anyone have a line on good material for the communications carrier? I have some brown cotton on the way but it strikes me I might want something with some stretch in it to fit properly on the head.

I believe the original was Teflon of some kind, so no real stretch. The stretch comes in the white part, which should be a stretchy mesh. I plan to use a fabric called “power mesh”. I think a brown ripstop nylon would be a close enough match to the original Teflon, which is what I plan to use.

Thanks Zach for the tip about the power mesh, found some online easily and it's exactly what I need!

My slotted screws arrived, so after about an hour of removing Phillips head screws and replacing them with slotted screws, everything is proper now. Definitely makes the connectors look nicer and more accurate.

My speedmaster watch is apparently scheduled for delivery now this Thursday after being caught up in customs, so looking forward to that and getting it onto the suit.

Annnnnnd I was had.

Got my watch today, it's a great replica of an Omega Speedmaster, except it doesn't SAY "Omega Speedmaster" on it but "Ben Nevis".... Oh well, Paypal claim inbound, and it's close enough in the looks department that I'm going to use it.

Ah man that stinks. I dont know where you live, but you can prolly find the correct replica on Canal St in NYC or the Garment district in LA. It took some asking around but I got mine in NYC. A guy on Ebay.UK was selling the correct NASA strap with the correct tags a few years ago.

Canada, north of the Maple Curtain I'm afraid.

Question for anyone. Is the material they used in the glove finger tips and boot covers the same material? I'm talking about the blue material.

Correct silicone......and must be sewn on as I have yet to find a glue that will bind to silicone. Or......can I use some silicone inside of the fingertips and jam them on the rubber gloves?
