2001 Monolith build

Finally we get to see who the builders of the Monolith really were....

"It's just this old retired guy?"

The next challenge is....when to cement it in?

I was just lucky I was able to get the monolith positioned down into the trench where I wanted it.
But now the forecast is rain, with winds topping over 50 mph.

Due to this weather, I dont think I should be attempting to set the legs of the monolith in cement yet.
And the last thing I want to have happen is the monolith to move while the cement is getting hard and have the monolith end up permanently stuck in a bent position.

So I think Im thinking no cement work for a few days.

I would try to put a tarp over the hole to minimize flooding!

This is what I know.
The addition of the pea gravel ( 8" inches thick) as well as the cement pavers (2" inches thick) that the legs of the monolith are sitting on worked very well to end up with the whole monolith sitting right were i wanted it.

But I just dont dare add an cement yet due to the storm with winds that may top out at around 50 mph this night.

I know I dont want to wake up in the morning and find that the monolith is now cemented into a bent over position.
So Im thinking that I will just let the whole storm pass before i think about the cement stuff.

if the monolith bends in the wind I can just straighten it out later .

as for the rain that will fall into the trench tonight?...well..I guess I will pump it out with my sump pump in the morning.

it will be interesting to see how my few 2x4s that i have now holding the monolith up straight will do in the winds tonight?

I may go out an a bit and add a few more screws to hold things...

That will be quite the view for your guests; it really is impressive. The pictures don’t do the scale justice until you were right up against it for reference! Incredible!

It simply will not stop raining!
Same here in Oregon. We only started getting the real spring weather recently. Our springtime is known to have nearly warm rains and large separated clouds (sailing ships) near the end but we are still getting full cloud cover with no sun and lots of rain. The great mythical heat wave is supposed to hit next week. I'll believe that like I believed the last "big sale" at the local furniture store...the one that never takes the sign down. My uncle got invited to go boating yesterday at a local reservoir that is historically too low to use the boat ramp. It is completely full.

Today....at Long Last.....the concrete ...

We might actually see a day with zero rain, and low winds!

So, its time to start dropping in the cement and getting this project into it's final form.
It's going to take a lot of trips to the lumberyard to get the bags of concrete I need, but i plan to drop into the trench as I go with some bricks I had.

Last night I checked the monolith for level and its still sitting nice after so many days of being banged around by the high winds and near constant rains.

So i hope I dont have to do much in the way of adjusting it before I start the concrete.
