1/1000 NX-0002

One day I promise myself to use 1/1000 nacelles as intercoolers on the back of huge tri-tube nacelles for some massive project---on the someday isle.

Sprayed on a filler-primer coat. Still needs more putty and sanding, but the B/C deck and nacelle endcap inserts are blending in quite well.

Assembled the nacelle halves and glued them to the pylons. I won't add the intercoolers until I've filled and sanded the nacelle bodies smooth.

Still doing general putty work and sanding. The replacement nacelle trench part is being printed. Should arrive in a week or two.

She's starting to look like the pilot-era Enterprise, though.

Did a round of putty and sanding on the nacelles and pylons. Glued on the rear endcaps. Primed the clear front domes.

I'll give the pylon and nacelle seams a shot of filler primer, soon. Gonna have to wait for the replacement nacelle trench part to come in before I can properly prime the model, though.

I also need to print out the custom "NX-0002" decals, and get some hull-panel paint masks.

Coming along. More putty work. Installed a JT Graphics Bridge interior decal into the clear Bridge dome, but with the red railings blacked out to represent the first pilot color scheme. The dome was then glued to the B/C deck and the seam filled.

Any product caps that split the difference between Pilot and Production Bridges?

I always wanted the Pilot bridge as a Klingon tower on a scratch cobra head.

More putty work. Almost ready to glue the saucer halves together.

And the trench insert should arrive on Wednsday.

No, not Tuesday, for all you GENERATIONS fans.

Tracking update: the nacelle trench piece should be arriving today! It’ll be nice to finally get it installed.

The part arrived. I cleaned it, primed it, and installed it.

Itch scratched!

Putty work for the secondary hull and nacelles is mostly done. Just a matter of attaching the intercoolers and nacelle pylon detail pieces, then cleaning up details and smoothing the finish out to prepare for painting.

First, though, I need to finish assembling the saucer.

More putty/bodywork. Installed the lower saucer dome, as well as a silver-painted sheet styrene backing piece, since the dome is staying clear/unpainted. Giving it overnight to cure, then I’ll glue the saucer together.

I’m very pleased with how she’s shaping up. Still need to get paint masks, but it’s gonna be neat to see her decked out in metallics, as opposed to the usual gray-green I use on Constitutions.

Thinking ahead to the color scheme. Aside from the two-tone metallic hull color, I’m wondering about the nacelle domes. Of course, the pilot versions were a dark red-brown, with weathering. For a brand-new ship, I'm wondering if I shouldn’t go for a brighter red, which also echoes the prior NX-01 era. Not that I would really want to embrace ENTERPRISE as proper pre-TOS canon. Hmm.

Ordered a few sheets of Aztec Dummy generic hull plating paint masks. I don’t feel that any sort of Aztec or proto-Aztec pattern works for TOS, so I’ll be going with a random, non-pattern patern.
