What About Bob, book cover.

The fake book I made is sized as 242 x 160 x 40 mm (height x width x thickness) and should fit perfectly the cover dust jacket. I would recommend to print the dust jacket on plain paper (if it is cheaper, print it b/w), which should consist in 2-3 sheets, glue it together, then cut out; with this sample cover try to find a matching book.

Hi, yes this was the tricky part. I got mine printed on A2 sized paper.
I looked up the standard size for a hard backed book. Which is about 240mm x 157mm.
So if you get it printed with the height of the book at 240mm then it should fit a book with a spine of 38mm.
I then went around charity shops (goodwill) with a tape measure until I found a book of the correct size.
I used Vistaprint in the UK.

I'd love to make a replica of this, but I'd like to make the blue parts of the cover metallic like the original prop book covers. I don't really know how to replicate something like that though or how to go about getting it done professionally. I've looked up prices on metallic prints and some of the quotes I've seen are pretty expensive. Is this something that can even be done on a regular budget for a one-off piece?

Another approach would be metallic self adhesive vinyl, which you might gather/acquire at print shops. Beside the blue color, you will need the green also to make it correct, and also access to a vinyl cutter machine to cut all the lines and the text.

Maybe do a run? I would buy one

For some time I wanted to do a version of the cover with vivid colors for the metallic parts (blue, green and gold). In that process I also did some small adjustments of the texts, included the repeating text on the back flap and added the barcode and the price tag on the flaps. Now I have 2 versions with 2 variants: version 1 with the black contour on the multifaceted red star with muted and vivid metallic colors and version 2 without the black contour on the multifaceted red star with muted and vivid metallic colors.

Thanks to the PropStore photos, I did some small changes to the book cover:

The most notable change is the photo of Dr. Marvin, which was cleaned up and enhanced in Topaz Photo AI. The font on the flaps was changed from Garamond Premier Pro Caption to the more accurate ITC Garamond Std Light. The whole cover was slightly upscaled to 250 x 592 mm; the book is 250 x 170 x 45 mm (height x width x thickness).

If you want to make your own fake book or to redress an existing book, here's the hard cover wrapping made to size, the end sheets (you need 2 of these) and the 1st and last page:

The hard cover wrapping is 416 x 281 mm, the end sheet is 333 x 242 mm and the ages are 242 x 166 mm.
