Unique Lethal Weapon Prop - 1983 PVHS Yearbook

first'ly, NERD!

Second'ly, you dont remember all the bands playing the South Bay in the 80's!!! There used to be a small club on the Redondo Beach Pier that had all sorts of bands, current, past and reaching their prime. If memory serves it closed when the pier caught fire but reopened as a DJ club, closed, reopened, new ownership... Id almost recall it being featured in The Decline of Western Civilization. Besides Oingo Boingo seemingly always playing somewhere also on that local list was the Sparks and A Flock of Seagulls. Hell I recall Oingo Boingo playing house parties.

On a prop standpoint, the RPVHS text would have been added, as prior mentioned, for viewer visual. Print items like this we take for granted anymore but back then it was a whole other ballgame. For instance prop newspapers were done at actual news paper printing locations. Most of the time those were done as favors for the prop master as the entire section of the page involved would need insider work done, the presses stopped or altered (when done at the end of the daily run) for a few prop copies. Books back then, forget it.

Nerd for...? Doing somehting as simple as a yearbook? :$

Yeah it looks like the only modifications to the original book was the label on the bottom portion of the front cover, and the insert page with the character.

By the way I sprayed a second coat of the sealant on the back cover. It really amps up the gloss, but makes things more uniform, and protects it better. Tempted to do the front cover again, as it needs it for these same reasons (evening out the finish and protecting), but I have the perfect sheen on the front as is.

Hi everybody. The video tape with "Amanda and her Friends" in the shower is a Memorex ProSeries T-120 VHS tape... I'm replicating Rogers birthday gift, the Police Set with the 38 toy gun and the plastic cuffs also the Rainbow Happy Birthday wrapping paper and silver gift bow on it. I'm also working on the Police Evidence bag/envelope with the yearbook and the videotape.. Future projects is the cigarbox with the bags of coke from Lethal Weapon 1..

PS! The Police Evidence bag/envelope is different from shot to shot. In the close-up, the 2 small evidence tags points to the right and the big tag to the left. In the next shot all of evidence tags points to the left.. But i'm going for the one in the close-up..

So were you able to locate the same toy set? Kudos to you if so. I looked (not that hard) but couldn't find it. Share if you are willing!

Two fricking years since I did this huh?

No, not yet. no luck finding one. I have to wing it. The 38 with brown handle looks like the 12 shot cap gun from the Parris Manufacturing Co. It comes with black holster and is called "Special Investigations Detective". My chances of actually finding the real deal are probably very slim, so i'm going with the alternative for now. The grey plastic handcuffs are easy to find. I think can see a holster for them too in the movie, but maybe i'm just seeing things that aren't there. But the search will continue. Thinking of investing in the BluRay, the DVD is too grainy.

This from Parris.

Hi again. Correction, the toy gun set looks like a set from the company Esquire/Nichols called "Enforcer" 12 Shot Ring Shot Cap Gun same as in the movie. The graphics looks spot on, the "Red/yellow Sun" with the black line crosshairs in the upper corner and the 12 shot ring cap shot in the bottom corner. Looks like i got the right manufacturer. NB! the set i have found is also called "Action Set", the one from the movie is not. The graphics are placed differently in the movie, but that is enough for me to replicate it.. The movie gun is black unlike the one in the picture below..

So, amazingly I found a sheet of the actual wrapping paper. Desperately want to find the actual esquire/nichols toy set to recreate the gift for a discerning collector. Anyone have any great ideas? I have written everyone in the galaxy. Oddly, there doesn’t even seem to be a picture of the toy set anywhere on the internet, let alone one to purchase. Frustrated, because it’s SOMEWHERE.
