ripleys clone, thanks for the pics and you are right, your end caps came out great using the twisted cotton technique. Very nice color choices too! I see you chose not to cut slot for the on/off switch too. Its just too nice of a design to mess up with having a hole in it anywhere for the switch so yeah I'm keeping mine tucked inside under the magnet closure like you.

Im almost finished painting my Light-up Kit Baton and thought I'd post this pic just to show what it would look like with the Control Box being Flat Black. ( Painted it a coat of Flat Black to help with the light bleed)

Mine is finally being started. I chose what I think are slightly different colors from the batons here and I'll post picks once it gets finished. I didn't choose any colors that were metallic or "with flakes". I chose a silver grey for the end caps and center, and a satin black for the main wand, and a flat black for the wand rectangle inserts. I figure I can always opt for a clear coat gloss added on later if I need it, but from the D23 pictures (and the spinmaster prop), the baton didn't seem that shiny or reflective to me. We'll see. I love the pics on this thread, so please keep them coming!

So looking forward to the pics, renderinfo! Did you request the person putting it together for you to take progress pics so you could have those for the sake of having them? I love seeing the different color choices. I was even thinking about redoing one of mine.

Nah. But... if it comes out OK, she would be happy to put together others as well. For a price, LOL. I've been dying for this for a long time, and I've added a bit more to my display case, so I plan on posting a few new pics once I get the baton back. Amazingly enough, I picked up a Sark disc (didn't have one before) autographed by "Yori" for only $35. Sure wish we heard new Tron news, but I'm convinced that the movies and/or series will eventually continue. I'm just hoping we don't have to wait another 27 years
When you "redo" yours, please post up new pics, your work is outstanding. Now... we are missing a Clu baton and the baton case, LOL. R U listening Artfunk?

The glow "effect" is actually practical lighting via the Soulinertia Disc Mod Kit. Contact Soul for more info ( View Profile: Soulinertia - the RPF ) or check out his Disc Mod Retrofit Kit in the Junkyard.

Progress Report.
I had to edit some of the contents, because my builder is getting frustrated and it's taking much longer than we both want. It is coming along however...
She's put about 4 1/2 hours into it so far and I have attached the photos she supplied...
1. the light cover showing you the air holes.
2. the light cover with the holes filled, but not sanded and a space for the light to shine through the opal piece.
3. the back of the light cover hollowed out
4. the back of the light cover with the opal piece in place
5. The end of the long piece sanded flat and marked where the battery compartment will be
6. The whole long piece showing the markings of where the tunnel and the battery compartment wll be with some hollowing begun
7. The decals in place on the reflective paper and attached to a clear piece of flexible acrylic to be glued onto the light cover after sanding and painting.
8. The end piece with light showing through it. The holes here are under and behind the edges inside. I have begun to carve out the trench that should be the light, but it isn't going to be a smooth line.
9. The other end piece - air holes, warped edges

had to dig this one back up to see if there had been activity. I totally missed your post renderinfo, looks like some serious reworking going on with yours. It's gonna turn out superb!!!

My builder's comments:
Pic 1 -
shows the inside rough beginning of the hollowing of the long piece for the battery case: the squared section, along with the long tubes for the wire for the LED lights to get to the middle and the ends. I hollowed out the inside portion first with the round sanding bits so I could use the dremel saw to cut the long straight sides of the battery cover.
Pic 2 -
shows the outside beginning of the outside cutting out of the battery cover short sides using dental tools. I couldn’t think of anything else to carve through the resin without disturbing the flat shelf I left on the inside to hold the cover once it is completely cut out. It is a long and tedious process.
Pic 3 - shows the use of the dremel saw to cut through the long sides of the battery cover.

shows the top side of the battery compartment with a rough hollowing out begun.
