The Guyver *Completed*

Re: Guyver *WIP*

so how are you going to match the detail from the ebay helmet to the armor?
its not going to look right.

I have a lot of steps before I even start to worry about that. They have texture spray paint... It will match pretty darn close for an undercoat...I would rather it have the live movie feel versus the smooth comic style. And it doesnt look right because its a basketball court and a pink helmet. I'm trying... first time at this type of costume.

Any input on your vest?

Re: Guyver *WIP*

painting wasnt my point. your working on something organic, not like traditional armor.
if doing fibreglass, most people can get away with buying a helmet for a spartan or whatever. but it being organic, your taking smooth foam and trying to match it to a sculpted cast. the detail is going to be completely different. that helmet was meant for a sculpted foam latex body suit.
paint can cover up and save a costume from looking bad. but two different things is going to look like a Lamborghini with a Honda bumper . cheers if you can pull it off, but i dont see that happening.

Eh... atleast it will be a bad costume with a kick arse helmet. I made a really bad Halo costume and people still liked it. Even won first place... lol. This is for fun and I enjoy it...

I apologize if it turns out bad and I do understand what you are saying.... I have enjoyed creating characters that I've always wanted to be... even with my Honda bumper. I can still have fun trying and learn from this forum.

But once again....I have yet to get to that point. Thank you for your input. I will cross that problem when I get there...and will have an awesome Guyver helmet.

You going to share how you did your suit on your thread?

Re: Guyver *WIP*

i did make a thread for it. i dont know if i put the build on it. but it is on my facebook page.
cant remember if i update the pics of the new lights. too many things on the go...

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Grave did a vest that opens from the front with a zipper I did a vest that slips over the top hope that gives you some ideas :)

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Yeah... I saw the zipper but did he use a pre-made vest or one out of foam? And yours looks killer...Thank you very much sir! I need to get some time to camp your thread.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

daninboo - That build is amazing. The legs look unreal and that light for the front is awesome.....

Sorry to you and Graves about buying the helmet...I'm a fan of the Guyver and I am not at that level to be able to make one that looks like the real one.

i might as well, just come out and say this bluntly.
i have absolutely no respect for people who buy their costumes.
if you havent made it, its not your and your taking credit for someone elses work.
the end.

Graves - don't have to post anymore on this thread sir.... I do this for FUN.... I might just kill this thread.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

thanks, we like to make everything. head to toe lol the vests are made of foam. good luck with the texturing of your suit, i textured mine to give it more detail and hide the seems. i hope you can get the suit to match the helmet

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Ah ! I knew I saw it somewhere around here : this can give some ideas...

That's perfect! I have the stuff they use for copper piping that I was going to use for the rounded parts of the legs and thighs.... the smaller stuff looks perfect for the under suit gaps. Deeper than the puff paint too!

I got 2 weeks left of school....hopefully I can time that project during the break...

Thanks JF!!!!

Funny, that was sort of what I was looking for myself...
I still like the costume. It's going to be pretty cool. It's a nice and different way of doing it, and that has to have some respect, no matter what. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it on the thread.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Last night I got the other bicep done. One lower arm is cut out and ready to build.

But because of concerns of the overall look with my Honda bumpers.... I went ahead and jumped to a test piece of paint and detail with the basketball court. I did this really quick just to see if it would match after paint. Of course on the actually pieces I'll spend a little more time with them and try to match it better but I think it's pretty close. I'm not in a Guyver competition so it will work for me..... Got me excited just with the primer.

I bought a hobby knife from good ole Harbor Freight (there 1/2 foam mats are $6.99 right meow) and used the detail head and round head on the foam.

Lowes also had the window trim in rounds in 2 different sizes. I'm going to use the larger ones on the legs and split the smaller ones for the organic details. Thank you all for the ideas.... and JF the templates!

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Well.... JF's templates are based of the anime. But the helmet cast is based off the movie. So I guess it's a mix. I want to make mine a metallic blue though....they have some killer metal paint that I think will make it look sick. The templates look a lot bulkier than the movie suit... I want to look buff.

Got the trim on the thighs and shins done. The shins look a little short..... I do like how they fit over the calf and holds itself on though. This was scaled for 6' and I'm 5'11".

I am waiting on the arm blades because I have yet to determine how to tackle them. I want a long and short set....

I do like how it's turning out.... :D

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Love it! Question? Yes is the test piece the same type of foam that you have been using?

Yes sir... you can kinda still see orange around the edges. I just hot knifed it and sprayed the primer. No plasti dip or glue coating.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Excellent your round borders. Would be too bad to re-build your shins scaled heigher... let's say it can be a chance to make them even better :)
I had in mind to glue three or four small magnets on the forearms and as many 1 cent coins under the horns/blades ('blorns' ?) to make them disconnectable, that's why I managed to leave on the templates some flat areas at these places. However any other way remains valid.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I appreciate those flat spots...very smart thinking and that's why I left them off. There's enough room that I was thinking a bolt system? Just questioning walking around a convention and possibly knocking one off if I bump into someone.

Since the shins were the first full pieces I did, I might redo them....but after I get it all together. They are close to the 3D that you gave me...just could be a little bigger. My build order was your posting order...lol.

I tried the paint I had picked out over black and it might be too dark. So I'll just have to have it over the grey so I can emphasize the details in black and have it a lighter shade of blue.
