TFA Luke Skywalker WIP

I found this for whenever you're ready to continue this project:

I'm not sure if you've seen this yet, but it's a great shot of Luke's hand.

I've had questions of whether the belt is 2" or 3" in width. So, I dusted off my magical power and did some measurements.

The problem is that the belt isn't 2" wide. Mark Hamill is 5'9" tall, or 69". Because of the boots and I'm probably missing the top of his head in the cloak, I'm going to call it 70" tall.

The picture of Luke has him standing, from between his feet to the top of his head, at 648 pixels in height. The belt, at midline to the body, is 28 pixels in height, making it 2.98" in width. Because of the pixelation of the edge, and the fact that I measure from dark to dark (meaning I ignore the lighter color at the edge of the belt), tt is a straight 3" in width.

At the same time, the pouch measures 42 pixels in height or 4-1/2" in height and the buckle measures to 30 pixels or between 3-1/8" and 3-1/4" in height.

If the belt were 2" tall, then the pouch would be 3" in height, the buckle would be 2-1/8" in height, and Mark Hamill would be 46-1/4" in height or 3'10" tall. The ratios don't add up.

This is kind of my thing, I've been doing it since 2007 with all of my dissections and physical profiling for private security from 2000 using video and still shot pictures.

hi just wondering if any one has had any progress on the hand ,ive attempted to build a skeletal structure but with no joy any one have any ideas
I have some ideas that I'm trying out with painting a glove and then using 1mm sintra over top of it. But, I'm still waiting on the proper paint.

I do have another shot, though. This was found by Jedimom over at The Jedi Assembly. It proves my point about the kimono construction, the saber clip, the obi, and shows that the shirt isn't tucked into the trousers.

Very cool picture. From the other available shot it looked as though the buckle was rounded, but it's clear from this shot that it's similar to his ROTJ belt buckle. I like that it has echoes of his outfit from Jedi, but in lighter colors to symbolize him fully embracing the light as a Jedi Master.

The buckle is an octogon and I think it's a facade. The belt does not look to connect in the front, which I don't mind. Since the back is never seen, it won't be too difficult to just connect it all together in the rear and call it good.

Blair on the Rebel Legion boards found this wonderful shot of Luke!

I was right about the length of the inner tunic from the previous picture.

The outer tunic definitely hangs like the ROTJ outer tunic rather than closed like the Old Ben outer tunic.

The trousers are the same color as the outer tunic and look to be light and flowing, possibly a cotton but definitely not a denin.

However, the big thing is the boots!

They are UGG-style flat-soled and look to be a beige suede. There is some kind of detail on the side of the boot that is a different material from the suede. The wraps are very clean and tight possibly suggesting they are one-piece and close in the rear.

Except for the color, the boots have the same design elements as the Well 2 Brown boots from Po-Zu.

Update belt based on the new pictures.

Pouch is a single piece of leather.

Belt has a Kylo Ren style edging on the top and bottom of ¼” leather. There are no stitch lines visible, so it’s attached with shoe goo (better hold than contact cement).

Buckle is backed with a leather patch and I’m attaching the buckle with bolts.

Velcro attachment in the rear where it will be hidden by the cloak

The hook is the standard ROTJ-style saber clip.

good update and good picture to see boots....Im making this outfit with a cybernetic glove hand....making the Saber....

Great work! I hadn't seen the behind the scenes photo before, it helps a lot. I found some fabric at Walmart for $1 a yard that I think will work great for the cloak. I had a shirt that I made for another costume and I just draped the fabric to look like a cloak. I have a month and a half to get mine together. Been growing my hair out for a few months.Luke.jpgLuke 2.jpg

Have you tried making the hand yet......Ill post my progress next week....

G-man - If I ever need a Post-RotJ Luke for something in future, I will definitely give you a call.:thumbsup

I am joining the conversation as well. I an just beginning to die leather working. I have finished a few small projects. I would like to attempt a belt like you have outlined. Will be following with interest.
Also plan on a light saber with lights and sound, but must wait until more details are available.

My saber will be my last purchase. It will also be the most expensive.

I ordered everything I need for my belt, but can't find three of the necessary items... The main 3" belt, the seal, and the conditioner. So, I'll be cutting my pouch out first and will have pics soon for it.

. Tandy leather has a 3" by 50" belt blank for $40

I picked up an official photo of Luke at SWCE last weekend. I'll take a pic of the photo and post it if this helps - and assuming may not be a (c) issue!? It clearly shows some interesting detail on the boots and wraps - the boots appear to be similar, if not exact copies of, Luke's Tatooine farm boy boots. They have the same pleats on the outside leading up to the ankle.

Also some great detail of the belt.
