T1 and T2 Endoskeleton Research Thread

Definitely T1.

I'm not saying this is what you want, but is what the top of the skull looks like on the endoskeleton at Lightstorm Entertainment. I also cannot say for certain where the skull comes from. But if it's in James Cameron's office... I suspect it's at least from SWS and judging by the separate rear port cover I feel it's likely to have lineage to T2.

Wonder if that's the one used for the Timeless skull. Has the same rear cover rotation and is missing the side screws at the rear port, where Timeless could just have added the one closest to the rectangular piece and forgot the opposite one when they were making the new screws and scribing lines!?

Let’s compare. I just took a photo of my Timeless:

Similar. Not 100% the same. Looks like the Timeless has an extra screw between the rear port and the rectangular panel that isn’t on the Lightstorm endo. It also looks like the 2 lines were fully connected to the rear port as well.

Damn !! Really loving all the info Dana. Getting me more excited to continue my Endo. Haven’t been so excited about this subject in ages.

The Bob burns skull is interesting. Seems legit but really some stupid mistakes putting it together. It could be that it’s fallen apart and just been put back wrong. I remember seeing a picture of his Endo parts put together in weird ways.

I much prefer the original Icons release over the “fat” Timeless release but both are really cool.

Could be explained by them drilling out the screws and adding real screws and that they re-scribed the lines, as stated in an interview in the below link.

Unsure whether the info is correct... but if true it can explain the differences between the Timeless one and the Lightstorm. Could also just be a coincidence that their rear port cover is rotated the same way.

But damn... that chrome plating has really made things soft on that Timeless skull.

Also, I've looked at T1 and T2 skulls for so long... but either didn't notice the indented front covers on the T2's, or I ignored it, as I was zeroing in on those castings being shown off on that table showing what I considered as T2 skulls - I never in a million years even considered they could be linked to T2:3D or later. I am glad this was pointed out. I'm glad I'm learning new things. But this kinda blows my mind that I was that wrong for so long. I feel kinda bad now for spreading misinformation.

The lightstorm Endo is cool too but I’m sure not screenused, just lineage parts from original molds.
Some pics I found.

It’s such an interesting display piece. I know I keep saying this, but we should talk about it more later as we continue to discuss parts of the endo. There are aspects to the construction of the arms and legs that are unique and pieces that are only T2. It’s mounted to a black tread plate like the Tomenosuke endo too. Maybe we will discover that these 2 displays harvested parts from the 3 unaccounted for endoskeleton in my SWS lineup shot. But I haven’t been able to match anything yet.

Yes that could explain why the Timeless skull changes happened.

I’ll spend some time this morning digging up examples of this area from T2 skulls. My hope/bet is that it matches T1.

All good. It’s great that we’re all open to discovering new things about something we love and think we know. I think it’s exciting. It’s a part of my life that makes me feel like those scientists who keep challenging what we “know” about dinosaurs and anything ancient. We’re doing forensic work on a cinematic cold case!!

I feel like this is where I pull out a nerdy "if the skull fits, scan it" line.

No? ok. ;)
So, there’s already a really good 3D scanned endoskull that I would honestly recommend as a base for 90% of people looking to print and finish a pretty good looking endoskull. Especially if your goal isn’t quite as nuts as what we’re talking about here in this thread. It was created by someone who I think was a member here at one time (deltadesignrus). I don’t know them at all personally, I bought their model on CGTrader a few years ago and decided to print it:

(If this link is not allowed please let me know)

I believe they 3D scanned a Thai recast of the M1 kit, then they said they used “photogrammetry” with still frames from T1 to fix the overall head shape and shrinkage issues. Then they tried to add some more accuracy to areas like the ports, etc.

I’m showing this for a few reasons:
  1. I think they did a pretty great job and while it’s not perfect and has issues, it’s the best looking endoskull 3D printable file I’ve seen available online for a decent price.
  2. I think the upper skull and jaw could be a great base for people looking to take it further with modifications. Other parts included are “ok”
  3. If you want a scan that you can print that gets better than this (that extra 10%), I think it would need tons of work on cleaning up and correcting the scan some more. And it would need to be printed it in resin to justify the tedious labor.
I feel there is a problem with this path. Not only in how much work it takes, but that you also cannot help but make choices or take creative license with how you interpret the scanned mesh as you try to move things around and tighten it up or add back detail. I know because I was doing it for hours on end in Zbrush before I abandoned that idea:

Image above shows areas like the upper part of the skull above the brow line smoothed and cleaned up.

So that may still be a path for someone, but I just wanted to put my thoughts on the matter out there.

This post brings me much joy. Those are stunning!

Also working on fully articulate T1 style endo arm and all other T1 parts to finally make a T1 Endo skeleton as accurate as possible.
Lol, Oh boy, now you’ve done it. I guess if we’re going to show all our cards I also have been working on a hyper accurate T1 arm set (modeling complete) and I’m nearly done with what I believe is the most accurate model of a T2 vault arm (which is actually a variant of the full metal machined T2 puppet arm from the Dyson scene). The T2 one is like 95% modeling complete.

My T1 Arm Model:

Those pics in my phone of the T2 Arm model are pretty dark, I’ll have to grab new ones off my PC at some point. But figured I’d add to the hype since swpropmaker did.
