SPACE: 1999 Eagle variant 'Kestrel.'

Thanks for the kind words!
Yes, now you mention it, it does have a similarity to that craft - the forward facing intakes I guess. Actually, I had that kit back in the 80s, and this model has a kitbashed part from it!

Well I am all for darkening the skies with Eagle variants! :lol

What a fun baseline to play with.

I think you'll enjoy the article, Cessna - there's around 34 variants on the second page, although some are quite similar.

I included the spine as a visual reference to the Eagle.
I did toy with the idea of not including one, but the model didn't look right without it.
The central section containing the port and starboard docking connectors / doors descends in my mind's eye - a self contained airlock for use on a planet's surface - so the spine would perhaps aid stability in this instance.
Although the design of the Kestrel doesn't require a connecting spine from a structual point of view, neither did the Hawk, which also featured one.

I see. Like I said, just curious. It's a great looking design. :thumbsup

Thanks superjedi! The model does have a few failings - but I hope to (one day!) get around to correcting them with a larger scale version.

I just got my latest issue of Sci-Fi and Fantasy Modeller, Vol 15, in the mail. And you made the cover! Excellent shot! Yours was the first article I read; I'm amazed at the research you did, creating all the variants. I like the name, Kestrel, I like the look of it. Your photos are awesome! :thumbsup

Thanks warp16. I'm glad you like it!
It was a lot of headscratching work, but worth it in the end.

I love this model. The eagles from Space 1999 have always been my favourite childhood toy memory. This is a beautiful addition to the Eagle fleet on Moonbase Alpha. :)
