Each section will be lit with multiple warm white 0603 LED'S. Squeezing them (& their resistors) in, required individual solutions
for all the different shapes. I use copper tape to carry voltage around. I estimate at least 45 LED's will be needed total.
Window holes will be drilled into the side walls only. Test fire here. Many more sections to do...
The "landing site" for shuttle ships is a much smaller circular complex, just bedside the main base. It has 10 outer landing pads
for smaller vehicles, but a large retractable center dome which covers a large underground pad.
Creating a half sphere for the dome was a fun & frustrating project. Scrounging multiple thrift stores, I found a "close enough"
sized ceramic soup crock (bowl), with a companion lid. The lid had a good shape for the dome, so I tried two mediums...
the first was DAS clay, shown here. After hardening for two days, it just didn't hold its shape well enough to stand up
to the upcoming handling/detailing.
So I switched to "Perfect Cast" plaster, which is extremely hard. The dome came out cleanly & sanded easily. Sorry no photo
of the plaster drying.... I then skinned 8 wedges of .020" styrene on top of the plaster...
Till next time....more work on this area...
