Repainting a MPC Millennium Falcon ***FINISHED*** with tons of pictures

Kinda surprised that bandai hasn't made a PG 32 inch and updated Empire and Jedi models. Maybe they don't think they would sell as much....I'm sure theres people that would buy them all.
I would. But until then, this makes me SO happy!

Decided to go ahead and take off these parts. I can tell that I glued them on and did my best to paint them, but some parts the brush couldn't get ro so well. Going to be fixed now.

Also noticed this molded on the inside. Its from 1989 but probably an earlier mold with an updated date perhaps.

I see a problem. The simplest thing might be to modify the PG MF with gear boxes like how they modified the 5-footer (not sure if they changed anything else). I am a huge fan of the 32-incher, but I don't care for the 5-footer with extra boxes. The front boxes don't line up with the rear gear box the same as the 32-incher, like you can tell it was modified to try to match something it wasn't. Therefor, I would only really be satisfied with a model totally based on the 32-incher. This would be a whole new kit. It feels like Bandai is quietly quitting SW, so I don't see this happening. I don't see what is in the the PG MF that can even be carried over to such a kit. In fact (and I'll run to the hills after saying this), I prefer the FM MF as it is to a PG MF with extra boxes.

The model was created for the first film (1977-ish). It was re-released for the later movies (or maybe never out of production--I dunno--with new boxings). But the main change was the earlier version had a lighting function and later ones didn't. (As far as I can tell, the lighting is only good if you are selling a mint condition kit on ebay, but not good for John Q. Modeler.)

It is a shame that there isn't an accurate 1/72 model of the 32", the FM/Revell Master Series kit does look nice painted up, but there are infamous problems with the dimensions & its quite a bit smaller compared to the Bandai PG.

With better access to the correct shape now (DeAgostini / MasterReplicas) perhaps some company will pick it up???!!!

The Regal Robot Coffee Table has a 32" style Falcon that looks the right shape, so there are moulds out there:

Fine Molds had full access to the filming 32nd kit and included the evidence with the kit. Hard to believe Bandai would create a whole new kit of this size and complexity, but this would be one way for R2 to kick it up a notch.

Throughout the day I've been able to prime most all the parts.
I don't think it ever got over 50 degrees today, so its been, shake primer can really good inside, quickly set up a box with model on it. Quick light spray and put the whole box into the shed close the doors.
Its dry enough now to bring in and put in the closet to fully dry.
Hoping I can make it to the hobby shop tomorrow and get some paints.

These firework mortar shell boxes coming in handy.

Got the left over pieces mostly primed.
I see the gun turrets need a bit more, and I'll have to get the inside of the dish.
Anyone thats read through my surgery thread, after all the bleeding stopped, I came and drilled tiny holes through the gun turrets and hung from paper clips.
I can use hopfully use that, or something to attach to the mounts on the Falcon.
Be nice if I could keep them moveable, but if not, Ill glue them in place, as the bottom one would just hang like a lifeless object.

Want to paint this thing, but its really cold and windy out there, and tomorrow is looking even worst.
I guess if I took the time to move the car and set up plastic, I could attempt in the garage with the door cracked a bit.....just not feeling well enough right now. After the doctor cleaned out my nose yesterday, its been bleeding more and more....stupid surgery. The healing from this is brutal.

Please, take your time with this; your health comes first! Rest up, and don't feel like you owe it to us to keep providing constant updates! We'll all still be here when you're feeling better. :)

I know I know...I just get that motivation to want to get it going....and then can't. I'm afraid that sometimes, everything is perfect to get it done....and then the motivation is gone...or the sleep apnea kicks in so hard, just to tired to do much. Its annoying.

My roommate had surgery this morning on her leg, her husband took her. So I then took her son to school.
It snowed around 4 inches last night, but this moring was a really beautiful blue sky day. Took some pics coming home, and paid the mortgage.

Once home, since.the wind was actually pretty light, decided to paint what I could.
I realized that one can was not enough.
But now about to go get her son on a min, since he stays late for track, and the hobby shop is about 2 or 3 miles south of hia school...I think they had one can left...hopefully its still there.
Mostly got the top and bottom part 2 coats, but going to need more.
If they end up having two cans, I'll get them both.

DUDE! Stop for a second & shave down those two 'raised rails' at the inside front of the mandibles! By a third or more!
