Pulse Rifle - Display

Awesome! I find that when I'm inspired by a movie or a theme that immersing myself in it really helps see the project through!

I'll agree with you there. I had an idea for a small prop piece. I wanted to get some dog tags made for General Hopper. I found a thread where they had the same idea. People stopped hunting for information, and it became a huge argument. Wasn't cool.

The only other little thing I'm toying with doing is having this printed off as a decal and putting it in the lower right quadrant of the raised center piece:

(The black areas would be transparent)...but I need to let things digest a little. I don't want to over load the display.

Yeah, it's no fun when people argue over a project. It's yours, if you want it one way, do it that way!!

I think that would be an excellent addition to the piece. Any idea on your size? That would probably make a huge difference in looks if it was too big or too small.

3x2 isn't bad at all. I think that would come out really nice. Now you have me working on research for more PREDATOR ideas.

I am glad to see this, those parts look great on your display, very impressed, I am astounded how you made this into a magnificant piece of art.....wow, congrats....Cant say enough good things about it.....

Thanks Guy! Coming from a guy who designed his own amazing display, that means a lot!

The ALIENS name plate really is the icing on the cake! But the grenade is totally awesome and I HAD to find a way to work that in!!! The best part is that both the grenade and the magazine are secured by small Velco squares - so they aren't permanently stuck to the display.

Im glad the grenade isnt permanently glued, you wouldnt be able to play with the trigger mechanism, like I do with the other grenades I have, those things are so cool aint they ??? I hope to get more in the future I hope....they are getting rare these days, awesome work Dave, love it...

Honestly, the last thing that I wanted to do was make a screen accurate replica piece permanently attached to a display! The Velco I used on the grenade specifically comes off easily leaving no marks on the piece!

Actually, everything that I physically attached to the display can be removed - a subtle part of the design that I'm really proud of - even the ALIENS plate is not permanently attached...though that's probably where that one will live for as long as I can foresee!!

One thing that I noticed in the strait-on pics that I posted is that the center piece almost looks flush with the black, but it's actually raised...bit of a optical illusion created by the tape that surrounds it.

You know, the more I looked at the pictures after having done the tape, I thought it looked that way (flat). LOL!! Yeah, it has more depth than some of the shots convey!

To keep the look nice and clean, I secured the center plate in 4 places under the metal brackets that hold the gun rack. I'll probably do the same thing with the mounting hardware to conceal the bolts.

If I have time today, I'm going to pick up the hardware needed to hang it on the wall. Just checked the tracking on both the lighting and the adapter and both should be in hand no later than Thursday.

:thumbsup

Holy hand grenade, it looks awesome, if you dont mind i may point a friend of mine to this as he is getting a Pulse rifle from his wife, and he is definatly gonna need to display it. Awesome though

Hey Bradley,

Sure! I'd certainly take that as a compliment. This was the first project of this nature that I'd ever done, so posting up the process was part of the fun.

Thanks for the kind words!

Dave

Just got home from Alabama and got your email Dave..beautifully done Dave, almost jealous.....where did you say you lived again , gotta catch a flight.....lol.....very exquisite work....love it....Guy

Hey everyone! I picked up the mounting hardware.

I decided to err on the side of caution and go with hooks that exceeded the weight capacity of my display rather than trying to match it. I estimate that when fully loaded, my display weighs somewhere between 25-35lbs, so I bought a set of Ook hooks rated at 50lbs.

Now...where to hang it was a big question. This whole time, I've been focused on having it on display in a not so visible area (so as to no detract from the Euro/France theme of my home. But I'm just so damned proud of how this turned out that I want it to be prominently on display...

...and not needing to please the decorative tastes of wife or girlfriend (at the moment), I decided, what the heck...the dining room!!

See...there are always some unexpected fringe benefits of being a bachelor again!! GUNS in the dining room!! LOL!!

Actually though, it doesn't look bad at all there... everyone who hangs out here will see it, there's a power plug on the same wall for the lighting that I'll be wiring up, and the Pulse Rifle will be easy enough to take down when I either want to show it off...or shoot ALIENS as I watch the movies!! LOL!!

I love the yellow/black caution tape. I ordered three rolls of it that will be used for my Aliens display but also around the mancave.

Excellent display!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!

I really like the hazard tape....really gives that military/industrial/LV426 feel! Can't wait to see your display too!!
