Predators - Royce Costume

REALLY heavy. I have a couple of other knives, and this one is particulary heavy (specially the micarta handle, that feels like made of steel).

OK, thank you very much, i'll look back and see if i cant find what im looking for. thank u for your help, much appreciated!! good work guys/gals.

chetk123, are you building a Royce replica, or just needed the shell panel for other proyect?
Art, now you almost completed the costume, have you mastered the "stab the bug" maneuver with your Steel Eagle?

hi auto, im buildin the costume. unfortunately i wont have it ready till next halloween now. oh well, but i was wondering how the best way to attach the front shotshell panels onto the condor jacket.

No problem chetk.
Art attached his panels with plastic ties, like the ones for cables. Also a malice clip or similar would work. I will make custom panels but I don´t know how I will attach them.

Art (and all members, of course):
I´ve been doing some research there on the forum, and I think that Royce hand weapon might be an airsoft. Knowing for sure some details,as the type of hammer, rear sight, thumb safety and grips I think that Art´s choice, the SOCOM Gear M1911 MEU Airsoft Gun would be the right choice. Add the camo tape, then screw this to the tip, and may be we are really close.

I actually recently had a chance to talk with the armorer who supplied Royce's pistol. It was a real pistol, with the M16 flash hider screwed on the end. Apparently EVERY person in Predators had a unique pistol with something cool on it, but almost none of them were shown.

According to the armorer, Royce's pistol was a "Springfield Custom 1911."

I do still think the SOCOM Gear M1911 MEU Airsoft Gun is the best replica we will find.

BTW, some of you might have seen that Propstore just sold one of Royce's stunt knives... and I almost had a heart attack because it isn't the knife we identified!

Looks like more than one model was used. The one sold by Propstore is the CA99 Tops Condor Alert. I can't find that model being used anywhere in the actual film but it IS in one of the publicity photos! Check it out!

You can look at all of Propstore's pics here:

Royces (Adrien Brody) Stunt Knife

It is still clear that Royce uses the Tops Steel Eagle 107C throughout the movie, but I suppose, if you wanted to be different, it wouldn't be wrong to go with the Condor Alert.

Great find on the gun Art!:thumbsup,
About the knife, if you look a post I wrote a few months ago, I posted some Royce "Rarities". I pointed that Royce uses a different knife for TWO publicity pictures. In those pictures he also does not wear gloves. They may be early promo shots. Why did the production make a rubber copy of a knife they didn´t use? Even none of the captures they posted show the knife they are selling...
BTW, how do you screw a flash suppressor to a real gun? Is it still able to fire after that?

:lol:lol:lol

I should have known you would have already picked up on that! You have a GREAT eye for detail!

Not sure why a stunt knife was made of the wrong model. Godo question though.

On the barrel, 1911 barrels are very easily replacable and it would be nothing to have a threaded barrel that would accept a M16 style flashhider.

Thank you Art, you seem to be a really nice fellow!
The Condor Alert looks great, but the Steel Eagle rules!!
Every time I show it to someone: instant drooling!!!

Have you noticed that the 107C has a dent that even goes over the micarta handle and slightly modifies it´s shape? That´s a tough choice: to replicate or not to replicate...

Looking at those photos, I am going to guess that is a rubber stunt knife and the dent has something to do with the casting?

I don´t know if it´s me, but now you tell it Art, I think I see the mold seam runnig trough the rear part of the knife on the first pic. However, the dent, in different shapes, is seen almost in every take on the movie.
On another matter, do you think they used the HCG machete replica or a real Crain?

Given my understanding of how cheaply this movie was made and how cheap they went on many of the props (long story... not to be shared publicly), I would have SERIOUS doubts that they used an original Crain. I would also think if they did, he would mention it on his website since he lists the movies his knives have been in.

As with the TOPS knife, you can see in many of the scenes that the Crain knife is a rubber stunt knife, but in the few pics that it is real, I am guessing it was an HCG.

Art, I´ve been looking carefully the few takes where the blade can be seen. It seems that it is a real Crain, a knock off made by the production, or a modified HCG.
Art, please let me use your picture to clarify what I think:

Look the way the edge is ground near the guard on the original so it has a short bolster. Also, the upper edge runs through the spine closer to the guard.
On the replica there is an "step" on the bolster before the lower edge starts and the upper edge is not so close to the guard.
In conclusion, the replica has a much longer bolster and a bit shorter guard on the lower curve.
If you look at the movie where Royce chops branches near the cages, cuts in half a Hound and frees the Original Predator, the blade edge is closer if not the same as the original. And as you pointed out before, it is very possible that the scabbard is identical to The Crain one.
As always, just my point of view.

PS: What is this supposed to be?
