New Vader 3d sculpt

Hey everyone! It's been quite some time since any updates on this project. i wanted to put out, project is still being made on the model. there have just been a lot of delays in my personal life that have made progress crawl to a halt. however, finally, i'm getting some free time again. and am now making progress. i've made some tweaks to the model, hopefully improved, (and modeled a new environment for these promo shots ;))

after this long wait, i know it's not much, but please let me know what you all think!

Wait a sec is that fibreglass matting texture inside the dome gonna be in the STL File or is it just on the render??

It’s a physical texture that I made using a displacement modifier in my 3d software. I based it on an image of real fiberglass. It’s a physical aspect of the model. It can be toggled on or off. But I like the effect, so the plan is to keep it. Also it’s just added accuracy.
Wicked impressive…

Thats is so cool it really makes this STL stand out amongst others!

I really appreciate it! I want to eventually try to add all the little bumps, and little blemishes throughout the model. Make it be a warts ‘n all look.

I really would love for this to become one of the definitive fan made replicas of vaders helmet

That'd be wicked I wish I was good at 3d sculpting I'd love to make my own vader helmet/chest armor stl but don't know where to start.

Start looking at the Battlefront models and see how they did theirs and then check out Blender videos on youtube - but not ones older than 5 months as they update their software too often and alter tools, features and short cuts, which is annoying when you're a newbie and don't know your way around the software and you are following an outdated tutorial and come to a short-cut ir tool dead end, which is why I haven't gotten very far in learning Blender.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like a pain I was wondering is it worth building from the dome? Since as u know thats symmetrical and the face isn't.

The dome is the worst part of the Battlefront model. And it isn't supposed to be symmetrical. There is more mass on one side than the other. The one I uploaded on my Thingiverse page was roughly reshaped after one of my scans of high end fan made helmets.

Honestly... if they'd just stop altering the tools and short-cuts too much, it would be fine... then there wouldn't be an issue by following older videos... so Blender is shooting themselves in the foot because the newer videos are not too well geared towards new users, but has a lot of experienced feel to them where the uploader jumps over things or do things too fast because it is obvious to them, but is complete mumbo-jumbo to a beginner.

Is there anything I can build the chest armor off of? there appears to be no decent files around for that

Here's a copy of my .blend file which has the Battlefront model posted above quickly retopologized to be easier to work on. Obviously it's missing a few details but it'd be a good start to build off of and get use to blender.

With the blender project file you have the ability to edit the low poly mesh before the modifiers are applied so that you don't need to "3D sculpt" and the work is with vertices themselves.

In regards to modelling in blender, it can seem daunting at first but there is a lot of stuff in there that you may never need to use. My best advice is to just get familiar with the tools in the edit mode as well as the subdivision modifier as they are very powerful.

Hope this helps

Hello Everybody! Time for a very, very huge, and important Reveal.

So, as you know, this is a project that the very talanted Anakin Starkiller and i have been working on for a good little while.
Now, as you may have noticed, updates have been put out over time, however there has been one big aspect that has been hidden from the public for a long time, and that is that this will be a ROTJ Reveal style helmet. I have been working on building it all up piece by piece.
All of the hard parts for the Neck brace, and inside of the jaw have been created, and some of the parts of the top half of the helmet. I will eventually work on a true locking system for the dome to properly fit on a reveal helmet. But for now, Enjoy, and please leave your feedback!

This is still very much a W.I.P.

Wow Frogfreak my young padawan...you are a really talented 3D Artist.Good job.
A tip: The disc on the crown of the ROTJ Reveal has round edges around.Only direct on the front its sanded more flat. That made it easyer to install the 3 silvercables on the forehead.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it coming from you. Your reveal was/is an absolute masterpiece, and high bar to reach.

And thanks for the tip! I’ll adjust that.

Well, another update today, i have completed nearly all the outer details on the upper half of the helmet, and so soon I'll be completing the last few details on the top, and then the inside. Till then, here's the latest

For a bit, Frogfreak and I have been conversation about this sculpt. He's worked on the model and sent me screen grab, I've done some comparison work with references that I have and he's made refinements in response to our conversations. But at this point, his work has gone a bit beyond me. I no longer can find anything to critique and my feedback has dwindle to "Wow!" And "awesome". So, I'm gonna open it up and say if some of the Vader experts on here can give their .02 please chime in here. But it will take keener eyes the mine to find critiques to make at this point :)

Hey all, if anyone is in ownership of, or has good reference of both the camera shutters used in the inside of the mask, and the original trulife airflow collar that was used for the brace, please shoot me a pm. i'm looking for some good reference on those. having good reference of the brace will help me make the shape more accurate, and to map out where things will screw in. and the camera shutters i can build piece by piece, and print the parts all separate and assemble.
