I'd recommend somthing called dragon skin. It's a type of silicon rubber thats very soft - you can use an additive called slacker that will make it even softer and skin-like.
It's usually used for animatronic heads for the areas around the eyes and mouth where the most movement occurs.
I'd like a resin copy if you ever make copies though, Silicone doesn't rot but it does become brittle over time as the oils dry out.
I'd be very happy to give you any moulding advice if you need it - this is a very beautiful sculpt.

Only questions I would ask though is how easy is it to paint? and how do you loose that transclucent feel to make it appear more like Foam latex.

It's pre-pigmented as opossed to painted.
You start off with one layer with a certain colour and build up layers using different pigments.
Because it's translucent it will give you a very deep realistic result.
I'd say depending on the pigment you can probably have a solid colour if you want.

Dragonskin is a Smooth-On product. I would say check with them.

One of the concerns I have in making a silicone or Poly Foam type casting is that surely I'll need a inner core to the mold to help create a hollow inside to the casting. Sounds like a very complicated way of making a mold to me :confused

I wouldn't bother using DragonSkin, the studio i was working at used it on a TV commercial and it had a lot of problems. We followed every step and every instruction the Tech support people gave us and it still had problems, it's not worth the trouble. Even painting the Dragonskin was problematic, regular Silicone is much easier..

If you want a Self Skinning Material like a Nerf Ball try contacting Polytek or BJB enterprises and ask for a sample kit of their different foams in stock they will send you little squares of samples and you can decide which one you like best.

I think that is a awsome job but for some reason the top lip seems a little smuched up to close to the face it seems like it should be more relaxed.

That's absolutely astounding. As if it wasn't perfect before, it is certainly ûber-perfect now... OMG. :thumbsup

What material did you use to sculpt this or did you mention that earlier in the thread?

Thanks everyone.

This clay is water based and is very good for getting detail and smooth finishes aswell as textures. Its also 100% replensiable by just soaking in water after you've finished the project.
