"NEW TESB" YODA head (Completed)

Hey good idea Zorg, I'd like to see that too.

Absolutely amazing sculpt cyberman, Stuart Freeborn would love to see this. it's even better to see him under a layer of silicone. ;)

.. (Yoda of course, not Stuart Freeborn, that would be hideous).

I have a question about the mold, i understand the building up of silicone layers but how are you going to key it into the mothermold to stop it flopping about ?

does that make any sense?

fettster, I don't know how cyberman's planning on doing this, but one method is; once the initial silicone's dry, embed regular bolts (heads down with their threads pointing outwards) into another layer of rubber firmly so they can't pull away, then build the mother-mould around these bolts greasing the threads first. Then once your remove the mother-mould aftrerwards you have holes you can push the bolts through and can screw nuts onto the bolts outside if needs be. Have to be careful where you choose to place the bolts though, or it'll be hard getting the mother-mould off..

Hi guys,

I've just gotten back from my little trip away.

I've now applied 3 layers of silicone to the head... I'm using a new firmer type of rubber than I've used before, for this piece. The advantage of using this is it won't "flop about" inside its fibre glass casing even at 15mm thickness. The only really technical part about the mold is the back... you'll see this in the pictures I'll post next week.

Cheers

Phil

Cyb: to echo many others who have already written this, I just don't see how any Yoda sculpt could be better. Astonishing work. :love

Love this thread. Lots of great information about sculpting and now mold-making. :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

P.S. Zorg, your avatar has mesmerized me. :eek

Almost as much as I am interested in how the Yoda head was sculpted, I am equally interested in hearing and learning about the molding procedure... would it be possible to get some info on that as well, as I don't really understand the dynamics of molding - other than simple two-part molds...

I'd also second the idea of showing a before and after shot of the Yoda sculpt, side by side, to really highlight the differences. As good as the sculpt was initially... it has only grown even more cool. :thumbsup

I find it highly disturbing and I get dizzy looking at it... :confused

:lol

I'm still baffled by the whole mold-making... it doesn't quite make sense to me yet... so looking forward to more step-by-step shots. :thumbsup

i have to say that this is the BEST ESB Yoda sculpt i have seen
the eyes have to be changed for green ones and hair added other than that hes done
