New Pokedex GBA Mod/Replica Build

Do you plan on hacking up any other consoles and controllers? JK though, I like how steady and paced this project is going; I usually do a massive amount of work in short bursts and then abandon whatever project I'm doing for 2/3 weeks.

Actually, yes. I do plan on hacking up another GBA... I'm a prolific console modder, so carving these up is just another day at the office. I really only mutilate consoles that don't work anymore, or have preexisting damage that can't be easily repaired... Purists hate me, but I make beautiful works of art out of consoles that would have otherwise been chucked into e-waste.

There will undoubtedly be a few day where I don't do anything on this project (probably because I'm waiting on parts, working on my comic, or I felt like riding my bike).

Fair enough. You mentioned you've made pieces of art from consoles before, Do you have a portfolio of previous work? I'd like to see what other things you've made.

You can go check out my DeviantArt account (just search my name) Some of my work is there. You can also check out my build thread on chipmusic.org, my username there is teh d3th st4r.

You have to also realize that like facebook 97 percent of instagram is made up of idiots who rather see boobs or food than something intelligent.

I can only imagine the types of complaints I'd get if I started posting pictures of my Akira Bike build... they'd throw a temper tantrum every time I showed off some clever suspension linkage or a series of CAD drawings to illustrate possible engine placement and drive lines.

They just want a finished product; they don't care about how it was made... that's why I'm cooler than them.:D

LOL!

Looks like some people on instagram don't like seeing how things get made.
It's weird because they're POKEMON FANS! They have a Pokemon fan account! You'd think they'd be interested in knowing the steps so they could make one of their own.

i have found that people on Deviant art don't muck like WIP pics either. the only views i get are on the finished piece. Meh whatever. keep up the good work.

Really nice build so far! I enjoy the same, cutting and sanding plastic :D
now, not to be a stickler, but, aren't you missing the white pieces that protrude off the sides on the top and bottom? They seem to be L and R bumpers, except in all four corners. Did you have plans for adding these? or is this just artistic license?

It's funny that you mention that.
I literally just got back from picking up another GBA from CL for $10 so I could do that very thing... oh ye of little faith.
What kind of nerd do you take me for?

This was actually a little fidgety to cut out.

Now I need to do some shimming, sanding, and figuring out how to mount everything in there and get it to look right.

Now it's time to do the thing with the face of the D-pad housing.
Not sure how to explain it in words, but I thing the photos manage to make the process pretty clear.

I'm not gonna lie; this was pretty fidgety, but I'm very pleased with the results.

Alright... Now I need parts from the new GBA.
Time to fit the other set of shoulder buttons to the bottom of the shell.

I always reach that point in a project where I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do in order to get the results that I want... so I just start cutting.

I've certainly go a knack for making things work when I don't know what I'm doing.

Stay tuned for the undoubtedly complicated relocation of the power switch, headphone jack, and volume controls.

I've been wondering why you deviated from the front plate shape by the D-Pad. Yours follows the circular curve of the D-Pad surround, whereas the concept picture sort of goes in a rounded rectangle shape.

Either way, this is a fun build to watch, I've always loved seeing interesting console mods. Fantastic work so far.
