Netflix's VOLTRON: Legendary Defender

Season 2 premiers on January 20th.

I really enjoyed season one, I thought it was a fun, if a bit rough, animated adventure. The trailer for season 2 looks like it might be a slight bit darker.

I intend to to watch season 2 within a few days of release.

I'm going to preface this by statisng I "Like" Voltron in all the forms I've seen it.

Now I'm going to pint out all the things that "bother me" and bothered me as a child watching it originally...

1) Premise - a 5 robot superbot is the toughest bad-ass in the universe.. got cool with it... but why lions? the race that built the thing wasn't human... why would earthly lions be the inspiration???

2) Race that built the super bot could not build anything else to protect itself and got smoked??? If they could build Voltron why did they lose?

3) Why do the humans have the ability to be 'drivers" of Voltrons bots/superbot? ancient alien race built it why would they allow others to run their weapon.

4) and this goes to a lot of "child" anime stuff - why do the villain always wait until its too late to say "damn I shoulda thrown everything I had at the superbot"? a decision that ultimately costs them the battle/war/invasion attempt.

Rant over.

I just finished watching S7 last night and I have to say that this season really ended with a bang. The last few episodes were really serious, far more serious than the majority of the series and were really well written and animated. The only downside was in one scene that should have been pretty epic if it weren't for the lack of a good musical score, watching the scene I kept on thinking that something either like the Robotech theme or the Yamato theme would have been perfect, but instead we got what sounded a quieter version of the Voltron opening theme music. Now that I've finished watching season 7 I really can't wait for season 8, if they build on what they did in this last season the show's final season might end up being the best season yet.
