Haystack if theres anything you need hit me up, I have a big greeblie box and if you give me idea of bits you need I might have.also I will have spare falcon kit parts if you mess up due to having 2 falcons unbuilt and a partily built cutaway that I bought as is anf I am in the uk also.

Found this Wankel type part, seemed pretty close to me.

Of course it would be slightly too small

No matter, I started making the new sidewalls. 1mm styrene sheet and a lot of kitbashing; really not accurate at all, but I think I've captured the feel of it alright. It's neat and well-thought out enough to stay at least

I think I'll work on the other sidewalls while I await parts from some very kind donators

You're too kind to me...it's making me suspicious!

I didn't like the greeble pits the kit came with so I started making another from scratch (unfinished). I also added styrene 'fins' to the edges of the mandibles.

Gonna need to make some mould of useful parts as well!

I assembled a small collection of flat-ish parts that I need multiples of and put them under rubber

Turned out pretty nicely imho
I swapped out these parts for trimmed tank skirts

I also made the engine piece that sits at the end of the mandible

It works for me, I like it. It's detailed underneath that hole too, and I'll have a couple of wires coming out of it perhaps

Haha yeah, I'm scared that my speed might suddenly brickwall and then spend several months not being done...hmm...

Well anyway I primed up the greeble slab and decided it wasn't detailed enough (!!) so I added some solder wire and vinyl tie-downs

I dig it real hard (am I allowed to say this about my own work?!)

I chucked some resin into the mold and used a couple of the casts to work on the underside openings

I'll probably call it a day for now

Wow two weeks since I updated! I've been busy making props for 4 cosplays in time for the end of October :wacko not to mention a mountain of college work, bleh.

I spent most of the afternoon churning out casts. The latex molds Jaitea sent me are very stiff, most of the casts snapped when I was prying them from the molds; so I've decided to use my own silicone to mold the best casts.

I also went back to the engine deck. I dunno, I really ought to focus on other parts, but this keeps calling out to me to be done properly.

It's an improvement at least

Aaha it's good to hear you've ordered silicone. I just took my new mold out of the styrene box and it's worked a treat; picked up the details perfectly and much much softer than the latex. Should be able to start churning out casts more efficiently now! Seeing as you're sending me all these parts, is there anything you'd like in return? I have a small box full of resin casts now, so if you want any just tell me.

Haystack, you've been a great support on my builds, I'm just glad to see someone really making this kit shine, I still have one in its box & I'd probably make it as a different variant so making casts off the FM while it is still in its box seams like a good idea, (don't know why I didn't think of it myself)

These resin parts are coming in very handy; but making vinyl tie-downs for soldering wire is very delicate and unreliable

Ugh I really am priming too often, but I'm incapable of seeing the progress all together without it....some of the original MPC details are getting a bit soft(er). I'm most worried about the vents, I don't think I can afford to replace them with etchings right now either.

I started replacing the guns as well, a bit tedious and I'm taking a stab in the dark with them a bit.

I'm guilty of that too, can't see how it looks till it's primed, if you're concerned about the vents make a paper mask to reduce the amount on those parts.

That's a good idea actually, kinda obvious now you mention it. When do you reckon the wankel will be molded by? Or if you could just send me some measurements for it, I'm keen to start building up the right mandible sidewall

Looking good! Looking forward to were you're gonna end up with them guns. The MPCs are really very very undetailed and basic compared to the studio scale originals.
