Mad Max: Fury Road Costume Thread

Really want to try and ID these belts. The grizzly Max is wearing one of the same belts that was also worn in Thunderdome.

Also worn by Valkrie in the film

And from Thunderdome

Both harness and belt haven't been identified yet and was wondering if any history or military buffs might be able to help find out its origins. The info over at Mad Max Costumes suggests it may be an old British style police belt. The buckle on the harness from Thunderdome reads "Astore Police" which may be from Astore Pakistan (formerly British-ruled India). Hoping that could be a start to find any leads. If anyone has any info or suggestions please share. It would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi everyone,
I was searching around for the knife sheath, so:
Spec Ops. Brand
Combat Master Sheath
MultiCam

And I'm not shure if the short one (6" blade) or the long one (8" blade).

I admire your dedication to 100% screen accurate details comicguy! wish I could do so too, but most of the parts I need are located In the states so, a cheaper alternative is the only pain-free solution. Anyway I'm still modifying the battle vest, doing very strong and durable stitching, but with a rough look at the same time... to stitch things in this vest is quite a pain in the ass!

You want the 6" one. The sheath offered by Spec Ops is slightly different than the one they make for Chris Reeve. It has the snap covered so would have to do a just a little modding to it for screen accuracy.

I'll do a better research, but as far as now I havent found any Chris reeve sheath in the EU, just spec ops :(
I'd love the Chris reeve but I can't pay it almost double the price just for shipping and import...

I just wanted to pop in and say thanks again for this thread.

Here's a small portion of my build progress in the various stages using mostly information gathered from here.

I'm still finalizing the vest & webbing arrangement but I wore everything kinda hobbled together the other night for the game's midnight release.

Thank you!

I used a wire wheel drill attachment, some tan & sage spray paint and Fuller's Earth for most of the weathering on the holster & shoes. I also burned the shoes with a candle lighter and used an angle grinder on parts of the sole and leather.

The shoulder pad came from Karol at madmaxcostumes.com - you have to sign up for his newsletter to get the info on that.

Thought I would post an update on my battle jacket progress. Still some distressing and right side work to do.

Sorry. Didn't mean for them to be so large. Now I can't scale it. :behave

Good job and nice fraying you got going on the sheath.
The pouch with the G3 mags, could you post a picture of the other side and the bottom? I'd Like to see how you got it attached there after being cut and shorten. The way you did it looks pretty damn accurate. :thumbsup

Can I ask, what is that mechanism assembly on the left hand side of the leg brace? I have *no* idea what that is.

Can I ask where you sourced your mags, please? Again, something I'm having a hard time with in Australia :p

Also, if anyone has picked up the 'Mad Max' video game, I note that the leg brace in the character model seems to be modeled after the one in 'Fury Road'. Might be worth getting some screencaps for.

Be seeing you,

Hey bud, thanks! I've been trying to post the other pics for you since yesterday but the site isn't letting me upload pics for some reason. I will keep trying but for the left side of the pouch i used the existing pouch and cut it at the first seam in the middle. Then I took a piece of fabric from one of the leftover pouches and sewed it onto the middle of the existing pouch then onto the vest with a sewing machine. My sewing skills on a machine are not top notch so i reinforced with the small black leaher stitching stitches. Then I simply cut off the remainder. for the bottom, i cut off the fabric just below where the G3 mags sit to cover them but left the bottom open. It always appeared to me that the bottom of this pouch was open based on the pic of max and the pole cat dude as Max is about to touch the ground.

I'll keep trying to post pics.

I think I acquired some of the mags from cheaperthandirt.com. for the other ones I just did a google search for used G3 mags, used AK47 mags, etc. some you can pick up for around $13 US.

cool i've sewed it the same way. :D

cutted one half of the pouch and re attach the flap. Only diffrence is that i've sewed it by hand with another collored thread and diddnt let the bottom open ^^

That looks pretty good, though I went about it a bit differently myself. Unfortunately I always get so caught up in projects that I never remember to take process photos.

In all the shots I've managed to find, it looks like bottom corners of the pouch are closed with no gap.

I started by removing the pouch divider in the center. Then I removed the stitching along the right edge and about half the bottom of the pouch. Next I cut a strip out of the middle, then slid the remaining loose section left, just under the edge of the attached left half. Then it was just a matter of sewing it in place and adding the black reinforcements. I hand stitched it, but for someone machine sewing it might be easier just to remove the whole pouch to modify, then put it back after.

I'm pretty pleased with how it came out, and I think it's fairly screen accurate.

Don't know who here is on Karols mailing list, but has anyone else gotten the new email about jackets? Anyone else gonna get one? Is Karol still here?

For anyone who was wondering, like I was, if Max was branded (or not)
after he was recaptured by the War Boys from his attempted escape...

MAX-BRANDED SCAR-2.jpgMAX-BRANDED SCAR-1.jpg
It isn't clearly shown in the film. In the only sequence that would clearly reveal the Immortan's branding scar on the back of his neck is when Nux tells the Organic Mechanic to hook up his blood bag, Max is hanging upside down with his tattooed back exposed. He is slightly out of focus in the background but I think you can still barely see the branding scar on his neck--after that, when we see him next, when he is tied to the front of Nux's vehicle, the back of is neck is hidden behind the IV chain.
These pics are from the Special Features on the Fury Road blu ray, confirm it. Max got branded.

In other blu-ray discoveries:
It's a subtle detail, but in addition to the fairly obvious patch spotted toward the beginning of the thread, the tongues of the boots have been modified with added leather bits. The first screen grab shows them being present on both boots, and the second offers better detail on the left boot.
