Kevin's scatter build thread

dude i didnt know we start R2 building at the same time?! your so much further along then me!! LOL very nice charging port!! damn ******* who lead you hear, what a jerk! ;)

actually, I just checked my join date at astromech. Its been 4 years!:facepalm I really need to finish this. I'm such a slacker.

Been working on R2D2'S feet and anakin's unibody v2.

Here it is.

To see more pictures or more detail nfo, I logged this all on the unibody V2 group thread.

Man I love this thing.

Do you mean how it was dulled? If so, just a little scotch bright. I really need to take some scotch bright to vaders and obiwan's clamp and pommel. Together in a group shot, they REALLY stand out.

aaah, i was just curious how you dulled the finish. i need to do it to my extra one. i wouldnt scuff up obi wan's. i recently learned they believe the pommel is clean on the end, since the sink knob was brand new at the time of its assembly. i still have to get a chrome knob from roman once i have some extra cash.

I believe I may have gotten a different finish than the v2 clamp. The obiwan clamp was actually purchased when I signed up for starkillers unibody. It just happens that I bought the obiwan from the junkyard missing a clamp so I used the unibody one and reordered the replacement.

So, leave the pommel alone. What about the clamp. It looks too new and shiny. Shouldn't I dull it a bit, or leave it be.

While we are on dulling, I believe I should dull down the vader saber body. It's pretty shiny. I also recently learned I need to make the side bars on the clamp the metal color and not black. I am also waiting on slothfurnace to come out with his vader board to go under the bubble strip.

obi's clamp should be worn. i am torn on vader. i know in the star wars world things are used. but i always thought of imperial stuff being brand new, because of having pretty much unlimited government finances.

BUT if you check out Vader's belt boxes they are beat to hell... come ESB i dont know if they are in better shape? but this is how my mind works...

granted the new R1 book shows Vader's MPP dirty and worn, also has little black screws ( i love that touch) i dont know what i will do once i get my hands on romans MPP...

Cutting styrene for R2-D2's feet.
These styrene builds remind me of the old style wooden airplane model kits that you skin with paper.

Vader's lightsaber should not be dulled down ... at all ... ever since ANH it has had a shiny like a mirror reflection, okay with some scratches of use as a flashgun, as can be seen here in the white reflection of the studio set up :

chaim i am in the same boat as kevin. i honestly dont know too much about the MPP. I've read most of the threads, and Seths book, along with parts of star wars. most of my props are ESB. i am up in the air of what why to go with romans MPP. any advice for us on the ESB clamp and what exactly is needed to be done to make it screen accurate? is it as simple as snapping the lever off? or was the entire lever removed and replaced with a pin?

parts of star wars doesnt go too in depth with the lever

Chaïm was a huge help with my esb conversion along with a couple other members. I need to go back to the thread and link it . Now im waiting on slothfurnace to come out with the under card for the bubble strip.

It still looks so out of place when displayed with the others. But film accurate is what I'm going for, so shiny it says.

The obiwan clamp will be dulled down a little bit.

I do have a question on the transistors on the side though. I have seen some with both washer parts under and some with only one with the washer looking piece. Which one is correct?

We had this conversation in Roman's MPP interest thread... so I'm going to hijack another thread (sorry Kevin lol)

The problem with the 'mirrored' finish sidebar theory for the ANH Vader is that, to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever found or seen a variant where the silver sidebars were chromed or polished. They tend to be 'bead blasted" in finish for all of the silver sidebar MPPs that have been found so far.

Again, this isn't to say that there isn't a variant out there that's like this, it's just so far no one seems to have found one....

both are correct, when the saber was first assembled it had a washer under each transistor. when it was reassembled for the chronicle photos only the transistor closer to the pommel kept the washer.

its a very interesting read actually, many debate with the reassembly if the grenade is on backwards. its really interesting

So if one were to find a real mpp in the wild, the sidebars would be black?

Thanks for that. My saber guru you are :thumbsup
