Kevin's scatter build thread

Thanks bud, and will do!

Im looking into Denixs' right now, funny enough. Just can't beat the feel of real metal in your hands.
Agreed! Mine weighs a few pounds. Pretty heavy in hand. I built my E11 out of aluminum. The dl44 weighs is at least twice as heavy, it's a few pages back if you haven't seen it.

i agree with mechanized2400. i learned a few new tricks from this thread. i appreciate you going into depths explaining. thanks kevin! :thumbsup

Likewise! This thread has been on my bookmark page since the first page, hahah.

Youve got some great work throughout this thread, all of which will help the next person down the line.

Kinda looks like it could be a star wars blaster. Wasn't there a character that looked like a cat.

I don't really want 3 build logs so I will just share my craziness on one thread. Huge batman fan. I have been waiting for these to reserface. I did just order wills templates for a cowl build. Classic 66 for me please.

In light of romans latest update (graflexs are so close to shipping) I went ahead and cut my t tracks from Roy based off his ANH blueprint. My miter box came in very handy for this.

Also my templates arrived today from Williams studio (the most accurate 1966 batman costume props available). Has both Batman and Robin full getup including the utility belts. I only plan on the cowl and utility belt. Luckily my mother in law is a fantastic sewer.

Been busy with work and getting ready for Christmas but finished this beauty

I didn't paint it. I used gold rub n buff. The spray would be too uniform and even. The rub n buff gave me the ability to polish up the parts that stand out while the under sides carry a different finish to look more realistic.

I went back over my hero saber from nicksdad. I decided to weather it some more, remove the copper foil and add copper paint. I also darkened up the inside of the control box and drilled out and tapped the 8-32 threads for the screw on the emitter as well as add another hole that I spied from Chaim's thread on the hero.

Here's a funky tip on how I weathered my ring. It's not painted! I used vinegar and black coffee. Just like an Easter egg. Same principle. I put the ring in a cup and poured vinegar in just to cover it and added some black coffee., about a shot glass. I let it sit for about a day. Once I liked the color I pulled it out.

looks great kevin!!!
Thank you, however I have to give Chaim's thread all the credit. I like how most have kept theirs new and clean but I really like the way Chaim did his. So after reading his post for a while, I dug mine out and remade it.

I might have to send my emitter to you and have you tap it and add the set screw... it looks great!
I have an extra screw lol. Came in a 2 pack. Simple hex allan head 8-32. Did you notice the other hole. It's drilled out to a 6-32 but un tapped. Chaïm found this in some research photos so of course I had to do it. Monkey see monkey do, lol. The screw is 1/4 inch long and fits perfect. Just deep enough to go inside without being visible inside the opening, and not sticking outside the emitter. The secret hole found by chaim is only drilled out around 1/4 inch at most. I drybrushed a hint of black around it so it stands out better.

I'm surprised no one liked my coffee idea.
