Kenobi belt pouch episode IV

The curvature of that tab section on the pouch is due to the leather being riveted on slightly off rather than flat against the pouch. Given that up until these pictures, most references (which were blurry screencaps at best) would make it appear to be a curved cut piece so it comes as no surprise that the replicas out there would cut that section with a curvature. Also note that they used different weights of leather to create the belt and some sections are thicker or thinner than others.

I have even better materials for this costume and belt and I'll be remaking it soon. It will blow the previous version out of the water by comparison. In fact I have some really incredible fabrics I've sourced for a number of SW costumes and I can't wait to show you all because it will put earlier iterations I've done to shame.

Is the raw silk for Obi´s ANH costume identical to what Yoda´s robe was made from? Interested to know, where´d you find it!?

Yes they used the same material for Yoda's robes as they did for Obi-Wan. I have a source for the material and I sell it on my website. I'm not doing international sales on the site again just yet (long story) but if you PM me I can get you an estimate if you’re looking to buy.

In the meantime here's a link to the material so you can read more about it:

I am wondering if this was originally designed to be a “Lightsaber Holster” that just didn’t end up working out as hoped. I really don’t see them making a “faux pouch” as there is no analog for this on any of the other OT costumes.

The loop is too narrow to hold a hammer or any tool bigger than a pencil. In order to reduce a bulky pouch jutting out from the actor's side and ruining the drape of the wool robe, it makes sense to me that Mollo would design a piece to resemble a pouch while also keeping the lines of the costume clean and unbroken.

Even the prototype lightsaber hilts were far too bulky to fit in a loop that small.

Exactly…a “Lightsaber Holster” that did not work with the final version of the hilt that was assembled by the prop department.

It seems clear that the flap of leather was meant to hold “something” vs. intending to appear as some sort of faux pouch.
