Re: WIP Ironman Costume for 5yr old - Progress Report 10/24
I was up til 2am working, but I think I now have 3 'functional' costumes for Boys & Girls Club tonight!
:thumbsup
For Mikey's suit, I got all the necessary things done. I got the final glove painted, the power supply for the gloves mounted in the chest and some rigging and helmet work done.
Here's a quick look at some of the progress...
*****
LEGS RIGGED:
I decided to rig the legs quick and dirty. I attached a velcro strap to both the outer leg and cod piece. That should allow me to adjust the height to best meet Mikey's needs tonight.
I didn't add the hip pods to this as I'm not sure how much room between these piece that I will end up with. So, I'll wait until he wears it this evening and then mark it and see how I can work the hip pods into the space (either attached directly to the strap via slots in the top and bottom of the pod OR attached to the top of the leg).
*****
HELMET MAGNETS:
I also needed to add some rare-earth magnets to the back piece so it was held better in place now that the batter pack weight is also included in the helmet itself.
Here is a look at the two magnets on the back section...
...and here is the inside lip of the main helmet piece where those magnets will mate.
You'll notice there aren't symmetrically placed... The reason for that is convenience. Those two places provided me the biggest gap between the pieces and therefore made the most sense to place the magnets.
They hold well and should solve the problem perfectly.
*****
HELMET LIGHTS/MASKING:
I had replaced all the LED's and power pack, but I hadn't blacked out the back of the lights so Mikey can see out slots better.
Here is a look at what the foam and black painted inside of the faceplate looks like...
You can see how much bigger I made the slots under the eyes - for a better view for Mikey.
And, here, is a look at the faceplate attached to the helmet - and you can also see the on/off switch of the battery pack (which sits under that foam).
The extra space below the lights can be seen from THIS angle...
But at a regular viewing angle it becomes very small...
*****
So, this morning I packed up the whole suit in one laundry basket so we're ready for the part tonight!
Ever wondered what Tony Stark's laundry looked like? Know you know! :lol
