Firefly Collection - Progress Updates

Firefly / Serenity prop progress update:

This one has been sitting at about 75% finished for well over a year now. Needed to get my airbrush setup back up and running so that I could paint the parts with Alclad polished aluminum.

Below are: quick in progress pic, a close-up in the display case and an overall progress pic of my Firefly collection.

Next up on the Firefly and Serenity prop list will be the Rance pistol and the Lassiter. I'll probably float between the two as resources become available, but for now the Rance is on my bench. I've been tooling away at the main body and figuring out how the trigger pin latch interacts. Here are a couple of pics showing the main frame. A little warping going on so I'm making edits to the model to try and alleviate that. Having the milling machine will allow me to fudge the model in areas of stress and then remove the excess after printing.

I think that once I have this trigger pull latch pin mech. figured out I'll have the parts made out of aluminum via send-cut-send. It will involve min. cleanup, but I will feel better about a part that will essentially be sitting in a state of stress if the dvd lid is closed. A quick snapshot of the mech. Two rings built in will hold the tension spring that keeps the ring in place. Simple latch release opens the door.

Firefly / Serenity - Quick update on the latch mech. Everything is fitting as it should after a few edits. Decided not to use a ring loop on the frame side that holds the tension spring. Too hard to try and get it in place so I'm going to just use a small block with a hole. This way I can attach the spring and epoxy it in place. Will post pics when I get that done. Printing those parts now.

Big shout out and thank you to kurtyboy - I really appreciate the assistance from someone who has paved a path as I traverse my way through.
