Doctor Who - A Journal of Impossible Things (Novelized Version)

Well I can do you one better. I spent a while longer looking for a higher res version, here it is:

......... yea, that oughtta do it.

I just found that same image, myself. We're definitely operating on the same wavelength here, Risu. Thanks for all of your help.

With a picture that size, though, I might even rough up some posters to go along with the cover, the kind of posters a book store would put up in advance of an author coming around.

I'm so pumped for this project, I never imagined there'd be such a huge outpouring of support!

Well, once you convert that into a printable resolution the biggest you could make it is 2x3 inches.

........ yea, that oughtta do it.

I dunno .... it's a little small :p

EDIT: Also ... glad that you found the back cover image as I can NOT find it. I suck when it comes to saving images, I have about 50 folders of images on my external, all of the same stuff.

That'll teach me to check the resolution of things before getting so excited.

I'm sure, if I fooled around with it, I could get it to 3x4.5 or even 4x6 without too much drop-off in quality. And if the posters are just for me, I'd be fine with a little quality drop-off.

FYI if you really wanted to be accurate, the posters used to promote the book signing appear to be of the cover of the book. :)

Yeah, the posters we get to see are all just the book without the title on it...but what about the rest of the imaginary book store that we don't get to see? There have to be other posters (In my imagination), and I aim to design them...all! haha

That, and I'm still not happy with the watch image. The complete on we have is too pixelated and the larger one has the bottom cut off and it's blurry. Did any of you guys happen to buy a print of that piece of artwork that you can scan? That might be the only way to get a good quality image of the fob watch.

Oh, and as for the leather, give me a week or two and I can find a perfect match piece of leather and take a good picture of it.

I'm off to bed now but when I wake up, I'll try and whip up a decent image of the watch between all of the sources I can find. I installed Photoshop CS5 today and I'm just itching to test it out :D

I'm probably going to go pick up a Torchwood novel tomorrow and get working on my own attempt as well. Then we can all compare and trade out certain parts to make an ultimate dust jacket.

Man, things are getting exciting around here. I'm most of the way through roughing out the back of the cover, and I should have something to show tomorrow.

At the moment, I'm typing on my phone to try to make sure I put all of my computer's resources towards this file.

I have a small lead, I hope, that might lead to a higher res version of the fob watch concept art. I'll let you guys know how it goes. But for now, back to work!

I'm pretty bored right now and dying to start on mine, but I want to get the book so that I know the exact measurements before I put any effort into it.

Looking forward to the possible watch image.

Well, I'm having fun. I figure I can always tweak my dimensions later! I highly suggest you kill your boredom by doing the same.

A note to anyone else attempting this: the presumed 1080i/p image of the fob watch on a leather backdrop (from the poster at the book signing) does not line up with the cover. The placement of the leather strap is the most notable difference...so don't think you'll be able to save yourself time by laying that screen grab over the cover and using layer maps to blend them together.

Wow, I never even noticed that was an image in the background, I thought it was just a rendered texture. Looking at it now it makes sense actually. They photographed the CO toy. The real journal didn't have texture like that, trust me. That texture matches up perfectly to the toy, as does the ridiculous way the strap is tied. That makes it a lot easier actually. I'll photograph my journal tomorrow and share the image.

PS - Shame on the prop department for that tie strap in the photo, and for putting it on the cover facing the wrong way. But then, the End of Time was pretty bad in all other respects, so it's hardly worth complaining about.
