Interest DaveP's 40th Anniversary Luke Hero (Interest Thread)

Does the V1 Hero appear in ROTJ other than the deleted cave scene?
If you mean specifically the Hero version with the reveal board and blinking LEDs then no, the cave scene is the only scene shot with it fully constructed. The I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L (predecessor version) appears briefly in the close up shot of Vader holding Luke's saber on Endor but all it has are the black buttons and the clamp card, and I assume we all know about the Yuma.

**UPDATE**

Hello everyone. Apologies for the radio silence.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

This past couple of weeks I've been busy finishing up a few commissions and have also been without a phone. This has made it harder than usual to keep up with messages as I've been away from the computer for much of that time. It's also meant that I've been unable to take any pictures unfortunately, as I've been without a decent camera.

I've finally received my replacement phone now so normal service can resume!

I'm very nearly done working on the few vintage Hero commissions that I have and almost ready to launch the new store!

I'd say they're about 95% finished and will be adding the finishing touches over the next couple of days.

The store is pretty much made and ready to publish too! I just wanted to get ahead of things before pushing the button, so that I can give it my full attention once it goes live.

Unfortunately I'm still waiting on the phenolic reveal boards for the V1 Hero. I do have all parts for both the Yuma and I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L However (as well as some other items), so I have decided to go ahead and launch the store TOMORROW EVENING (27/11/2023) at midnight (UK time).

The V1 Hero will be visible on the store, but will show as "out of stock" for the time being.

I considered waiting until the the V1 was ready before publishing the site, but figured it would be good to get things up and running with a very limited number of Yuma and I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L to start with, in order to check that everything is working correctly.

I have had a number of enquiries regarding Yumas and I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L, so I figured I could make those available straight away. :)

I can then add V1 Hero stock when the boards have finally arrived! I will of course announce this beforehand and set a date/time. It could literally be a matter of days now.

It's a little disappointing on the one hand as I would have liked them to be available from launch, but it will be good to have an established and fully functional site prior to making them available.

It will get me used to the process of adding stock to an existing site too, which I'll be doing on a regular basis.

Regardless of whether or not the Heroes are available from day one, I WILL be working on getting some finished and ready to install their reveal boards upon their imminent arrival.

This first round of stock will be a small test run for a couple of reasons:

Firstly, I'd like to get used to taking orders via the site and getting an idea of how long it takes to process them from start to finish.

Whilst all parts are in stock, they will need to be checked over, packaged up and have shipping arrangements sorted out/labels printed etc.

Secondly, I would like to have this first small run completed and shipped before Christmas. So I need to be sure that that's achievable with the quantities I add.

I am just one person at the end of the day, and much to my eternal frustration, there is only so much that can be done in a limited amount of time.

So, for this reason, numbers will be limited for now I'm afraid.

Immediately following the new year, I'll be restocking everything, and in greater numbers.

At some stage tomorrow, I'll post an official announcement about the launch.

For now though, here is a list of items that will be available on the store:
  • DIY Yuma Kit
  • Fully Finished Yuma
  • Yuma Ctrl box
  • Yuma Blade
  • Yuma Stencils
  • DIY I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L
  • Fully finished I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L
  • I.S.Y.H.C.A.N.L Ctrl box Kit
  • DIY V1 Hero Kit (out of stock / coming soon)
  • Fully Finished V1 Hero (out of stock / coming soon)
  • DIY V1 Hero Ctrl Box Kit (out of stock / coming soon)
  • Fully Finished V1 Hero Ctrl Box (out of stock / coming soon)
  • DIY V1 Reveal Board Kit (out of stock / coming soon)
  • Fully Finished V1 Hero Reveal Board (out of stock / coming soon)
  • DS2 Brass Sections
As I've said, I'll be working on V1 Hero items behind the scenes, and will add these as soon as the final piece arrives. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking orders beforehand, even though I expect them any day now. I'd like to see them and check that they've turned out as expected first.

I'll post a more in-depth announcement post tomorrow evening before the site goes live, with a link to where you'll be able to find everything.

I'll also get a message sent out to all non-RPF members via Email/FB/Instagram before the site goes live. I just wanted to give a little bit of prior warning before making the official announcement tomorrow. (I intended on posting this yesterday!) o_O

Thanks again for your patience everyone! I'm so very excited to finally be able to start working on these for you all!

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.

All the best and MTFBWY,

Dave

"...so I have decided to go ahead and launch the store TOMORROW EVENING (27/11/2023) at midnight (UK time)."

Does anyone have a link for this store yet?

**UPDATE**

Hey Everyone.

I'm just dropping in to give you my sincerest apologies.

Failed.gif

I have been working frantically all day today to get things ready for the store to launch.

I spent a good portion of the day working on getting commissions finished.

Unfortunately, I didn't leave myself enough time to get the images I needed for the site, or to get everything linked up correctly.

I've worked flat out to get it all ready to publish, but ultimately, I'd be publishing a site that I am not happy with.

Today has been the most overcast and miserable rainy day for taking photos. I am really quite proud of the finished hilts, and it really pains me to publish the site using images that were taken in a rush, and practically in the dark. :(

I'm also a little worried about the shipping calculations on the site, which are all automated and based off of weight. I'm having to be clever and trick the system in to charging the correct amount for combinations of larger and smaller items which can be shipped together.

I really want to get this right the first time, and wanted to go over it again this evening before it got to midnight.

Well, time has gradually slipped away from me, and midnight has been and gone!

I'm really VERY sorry for any disappointment, and to mess everyone around. I'm going to need an additional 24 hrs. to iron everything out and to replace the images I took this evening.

Tomorrow is forecast as a sunny day, so I'll be able to get better images that are to the standard I'd like.

I hope you all understand and aren't too disappointed. :(

It's better that the site is launched 24hrs later than planned, looking as it should do, and without any technical problems.

Hopefully you all agree.

Apologies again! Midnight tomorrow (UK Time) is 100% achievable now, with just these couple of things to do tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience everyone...

Am I understanding correctly you will be offering stand alone Hero activation boxes?? I have been looking all over for one, besides the obvious choices!

No worries Dave!
Having gone through all of this myself as well, I can certainly relate :) I'm sure your site will work nicelly in the end :)
I don't know if this is worth anything, but regarding your shipping calculations, my website is also based on weight, to make it work, I copied all the weight limits from the post service I'm using with their respective prices, but removed the weight of the boxes I'm using for each weight. Then every time I add an item to my website, I put its exact weight including the paper wraping for it.
I'm starting to have a lot of items on my website, I never had too many issues, it's rare the total weight from an order will be too close to one of the weight limit, so it will account for any extra packing I will use that day or for a slightly heavier box.
I'm sure your system will work nicelly :)

If I may, I'm sure you have given thoughts to your release time, but I feel that it is a bit late. It will be 1 in the morning for the whole europe. I usually release my big runs at 8PM Paris time. but anything between 8PM and 10PM will be pretty good worldwide I think. It's also a lot of stress and fatigue for you to release so late and have to stay in front of your device making sure the orders are coming in and there are no problems :)

I'm sorry for the unsolicited advice, I hope they can possibly help a bit, I can sincerely relate. I like to communicate as much as possible with my customers and be clear up front as well on release dates and things like that, want to avoid keeping them waiting and am often un-realistic about when I will finish things, putting a lot of extra pressure on myself and also my wife sometimes when she has to pick up the pieces because I'm not ready on the release day!

Good luck Dave, it's going to be awesome :)
cheers

Thanks Matthieu!

I think I've worked it out a similar way. It get's confusing with UPS as they go off size rather than weight, so I've had to set the weights in such a way that when a certain number of orders requires a larger box, it goes to the next price up. I think I've got it figured out now and can always tweak it as time goes on.

Thanks for the advise.

It probably would have been better to launch a bit earlier and will choose a better time for adding stock in future.

As it turned out, I needed the full 24hrs to iron everything out and get things up and running! o_O

With that said, **the site is working and stocked up!**

I'll add a link to the store on my home page from Midnight tight!

Here is the link for those who need it:

DaveParkinArt.com

I have added very limited stock for time consuming items like full commissions.

Please don't worry if you don't manage to purchase something, I'll be adding more very soon.

I really just want to test everything out and get this first batch of orders shipped out within the next couple of weeks in time for Christmas.

More stock will be added in the new year, and in larger quantities.

Please just be aware that the PayPal redirect isn't working after purchasing something. And if/when you return to the site, your basket will still have the items in there.

This doesn't mean that the purchase didn't go through. You should receive an email receipt straight away.

Thanks teecrooz for helping out and testing things out. It's much appreciated!

I'm going to look in to why it's not redirecting to the site after making a purchase, but will still go ahead with the launch at midnight (20 minutes!!!)

Thanks again for your patience everyone! Really hope you like the site (and what's on there!)

All the best and MTFBWY!

Thanks Dave! Just to let you know though, the link you posted and the one if I search up "Dave Parkin Art" Still show up as "Coming soon". Like StarDoctor redirected me to, for some reason it only works if it's DaveParkinArt.com/Store but it doesn't work without the "Store" in it

Edit: The "Home" Tab of the Site is where it says "Coming soon" and can't be redirected from there. If you want to access the store, you have to type "DaveParkinArt.com/Store" for it to work
