Catching Fire Arena Bow Replica

After quite a long google search, I can't find any one piece recurves that match the distinct shape of the riser that I am looking at from production stills. It may indeed be custom. No bow I have seen matches the shape of the riser just above her hand. I haven't seen a single other recurve that has a perfectly smooth sight window (or I guess it's perfectly smooth because it has no sight window).

So far the most similar results that I've turned up are custom bow makers, but given the simplicity of the design, it really shouldn't be hard to have a bowmaker replicate one for me. Obviously I'll need to come up with a set of working dimensions for the riser and the overall length, but I think if I get in touch with the right person, it should easily be doable.

I am going to keep looking though when I get time. you never know what I may sniff out on the internet. :)

The closest bows that I've found are some of the 50's style recurves I've done a ton of research but was hoping you would find something different. The first pic is a bear recurve. the second a mingo youth recurve but is too small. The third is a great northerns bow hunting ghost and I've emailed a bunch of custom bow makers and none of them supplied the bows for the movies. The fourth is some vintage hoyt recurve. Also during the training scene when katniss grabs the bow off the rack the bow on the top looks like the bow in mockingjay uploadfromtaptalk1411329645142.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1411329555110.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1411329509727.jpguploadfromtaptalk1411329489392.jpg

I have seen all of those so far, and I'm even considering (dependent on more reference material) purchasing one and sanding it into the proper shape (which may or may not be possible given the depth of the sight window on the base bow). It may compromise the structure of the bow for full time heavy usage, but given the low price points of them (relative to the hoyt buffalo) I'm really not that concerned about it. I have heard whispers that this may not be the final bow though, and that the actual mockingjay bow may end up looking different. If that is the case, then I may not end up replicating this bow at all.

If it ends up that nothing else will work, I'm sure I will end up contacting a custom recurve bow maker and they should easily be able to replicate a design this simple.

I'm pretty sure it is the final bow but there is a possibility it isn't because one of the guys from hout said that they will be using the buffalo for the next two movies but since the release is only a good two months away we shall wait and find out

I've done some more research and emailed hoyt here's what she said " No one here knows, due to disclosure policies we wouldn’t be able to give that information out, sorry."

Hi Alex,
Great work on the bow, I was just wondering if you could link where you bought the vanes from. I tried to send you an email at agordan117@gmail.com but it said the email address wasn't recognizable.
Thanks and keep up the good work

I tried the same thing and the email didn't work for me. I'm dying to know where to get the vanes as I'm looking to replicate this project. If you get any clues, please contact me!

I found the flex fletch ffp vanes and I ordered them in size 360, the shape is pretty accurate, but they're not as accurate as whichever ones Alex used. So, unless you find the same exact ones as Alex, I think your best bet is to go with the flex fletch ffp 360. Now that I've fletched the arrows, my only problem is the quiver, I have the right fabric and I've made wooden inserts in the same oval-shape as in the movie, but I can't get the fabric to stay in that shape. If anyone has some tips or a solution to this, please contact me

Heres a sketch of the quiver and other things if needed

Has anyone found anything closer to the vanes/fletching? I have messaged Alex a few times but unfortunately he hasn't replied.

AlexGordon are you still going to make the mockingjay bow I've been really looking forward for it to come to light. I've found so much more info about the bow. If you need it.
