Building The Death Star - PRODUCTION

Here's the same area on the original, left; mine retouched right.

Interesting that you can see lines that I missed on my first go-around, using my reference available at the time (the current image is from my most recent trip to Seattle).

Makes me wonder how many more lines may have been missed.

Here's another look - the retouched area side by side; before and after.

I think a distinct challenge I have in trying to adjust this visual element is that the pen I am using - though it does increase the granularity (creates finer dots) - the dots it does create still are not fine enough.

Looking at the original in this area, it really seems it was in fact misted on with either aerosol or air brush.

Isn't that what Mike and I said 2 years ago? They had to do this fast and probably sputter painted it or for more control ran their thumb over a fine stiff brush with various colors of grey.

Your method has much more control, and they didn't have to copy anything.

Having said that. You will never get to perfect. It is impossible on this project. You should start making windows. You do want to finish, right?

Also, for those concernd about my debilitating obsessions, remember that I am moving forward on the model as I tweak it. This shot shows how little I have left to do for the lines. I also added a cool looking image.

Such a perfectionist, it is great to see a member take the time and effort to build something to try to reach 100% accuracy.

will it be done in time for the next prop party?

Wow Rob. Looking great. I like being able to keep updating a prop. Let me know when windows are getting installed.

Can't wait to see it lit up.. how are you going to make the windows? Uber-fine drill bit?

I was using an exacto knife and it worked quite well. Especially in the trench were some of the windows/docking bays are rectangle shaped..

Rob did most these upper dome "windows" with a teeny-tiny drill bit and they still were a little big.

The windows will go faster if you bust the pointy tip off them blades. At least you won't have to go back and paint them over to be smaller.

Gotta say I like that this has been ongoing. Constant effort for a dead on duplicate. Serious dedication. RPF CANDY.

Sweeeeet! Any Soccer vids you have to edit or are we good to go? All I have is my daughters 3rd Bday next weekend, then I'm free. Let's set a date. :thumbsup

Did I ever show you the vid? It came out well...

No - no videos this year! It was exhausting last year! Let's shoot for one of the first three weekends in December, granted holiday family activities don't override.

Be forewarned though - I may require a 1:1 ratio of dot-reducing to window etching!

Man, I take some time off, and looking at this makes my brain hurt.
Good gravy.

I have your period correct shirt and I'm still looking for the perfect pants for your photo shoot.

Start growing sideburns and find some earth shoes.
Laffo.

There he is! Good to see you back.

Maybe we should just ask Dennis if he still has his outfit? He knows it will go to a good cause! Though he's not 6'4"...
