Building the 8' Star Destroyer (superstructures done)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

^^ QFT ^^

I'd certainly pay at least $15k for a model of this quality and scale (of my favourite Star Wars spaceship :love)

But I think Julien will want to hold onto this masterpiece for a verrrryyy long time, considering all the blood, sweat and tears that he's put into it :)

Cheers,
John

Add a zero and she's yours ! :lol

Add a zero and she's yours ! :lol

What, the 8' ISD model or Vanessa Paradis? :lol

Can I add the zero at the start of the amount? $015,000???

Seriously though, considering the $$$'s you've spent on the old vintage model kits, nd the quality of craftmanship, I'd say it's worth considerably more than $15k (when finished)

If you ever do decide to sell... if the 'soon-to-be' Madam Tox objects to dusting it maybe... well, let me place myself at the head of the queue :)

Cheers,
John

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

This is probably the most insane (in as good a way as it can be ment) thing I've seen ever. The size, the accuracy, the amount of work on it. I love it :) I admit I have not read the whole thread, but are you going to add lighting to it?

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Just unbelievable. I was looking at this and thinking "Wat?" when trying to imagine how much work and dedication is involved here.

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Thank you guys, yeah I'm putting fiber optics in her.

OK John, if Madame Tox wants to see the ISD leave the home, I'll think of you ! :lol

Cool... I have several hundred witnesses here, remember! :lol

Just make sure Madame Tox doesn't develop a taste for Chanel, Cartier, D&G, Jimmy Choo etc. etc. or you might find that she gets tired of the ISD model very quickly! :love

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

I've shown some photos of this build to some of my industry geek friends (some of whom worked on the original). After they inevitably pick their jaw up, they always follow up with "This guy's got a girlfriend?" and "He lives in Paris?!" Jeez, talk about having it both ways......... :lol

Keep up the good work. If I ever make it to Paris for a conference or film festival, there will be a knock on your door.

Lol yeah there're a few readers here ! :p

Unfortunatly, she already liked all those brands... I love only Tamiya... :lol
I buy her a ring and she's happy, I can buy a load of kits without having any reproach ! :love Actually she's not too worried about the cash I spend on kits but more about the mess I put in the house... :unsure :lol

Wow Gene, I'm very honored you've shown some pics of my ISD to your friends ! And ever more honored that some of them worked on the original... The model I'm building is a tribute to them ! I'm very thanksfull for all what they did, yeah I have a GF and tell them she's not happy because that's their fault if there are models everywhere in the house !

If you ever come to Paris, be sure you'll be welcome as some other were and will ! Just drop me a line that I clean up the shop. :lol

He must be some sort of god.

If only... :p

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

That's not a model anymore, this has truely become art!

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Whooaa... gotta rescue this awesome thread from Page 2, and Bump it back to where it belongs - at the top of the Studio Scale forum :)

Julien, have you been secretly working on the ISD, and your next update will be of the finished model? :confused :lol

C'mon... how difficult can it be to build an 8-foot Studio Scale model of an Imperial Star Destroyer anyways?
....maybe now is the time for me to start my first Studio Scale model build myself? I'll start with an 8-foot ISD...easy-peasy! :lol

Cheers,
John (running for cover! LOL)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Thanks you guys to still showing interest in this model after all this time ! :)

John, I'm really sorry, I would love to have some update to show you, unfortunatly that won't happen for the 3 next months.
Almost every kits is packed up for my move, getting a new job and the prep for the wedding (a second job :D) keep me away from big projects and I just work on small models like the Shuttle or X-Wings.
Then once I move to my new house, I have to setup my shop, right now I'm just tired to have to move the whole thing (it's so heavy and not enough space, I could break some parts) each I want to work on another area. Fortunatly in my new shop I will be able to turn around the model which will be easier and faster !
I also need to drawn again the plans for the hull as I lost them in my computer crash.

Right now, I'm focused on the Shuttle which I want to be finished before the move (I don't know if it will be possible when I see how long the kits I've ordered are taking to arrive... probably because of christmas).

If I can get the ISD finished for the 30th of ROTJ, that would be just great... And that would be my 30th anniversary too ! Only the end of the World in 2012 could stop me ! Or more probably a baby. :sleep

If you ever want to start with the 8 footer as a first SS model, why not ? :D I would be glad to help ! :) That's probably not the hardest model to do ! One of the biggest, most expensive, most time consuming, yes, but once you got your drawings right, the building is not very hard ! :)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Sweet. Wish I had infinate powers or otherwise I would appear there out of thin air and make that place say 25 x bigger and yeah. Thus you would be able to make a very nice looking S.E.I.S.D. Super Executor Imperial Star Destroyer

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Detail overload, please reboot me! :confused

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer (portside primered, lots of pics)

Thank you guys !

I finally have an update for you, one of the top access hatch.

Once again I've tried to be as accurate as possible when scribing the lines and gluing the styrene chips, but it's hard to be 10% dead-on, some areas are not clear.

There're 223 (I like this number :p) styrene chips and I take about 2 min to figure the location, lenght and width of a chip, cut it, sand it and glue it in place. Do the maths ! I don(t know how many styrene chips will be on the whole model ! (and I don't want to know :lol).

The first pic is to show I received my plates, I had to sand smooth the top and the edges. was easy and quick, the trickiest thing was to get sharpe wedges where they were rounded.
