Back to the Future

Great news! Didn't want to rush you, to be clear. With "near future" I mean: somewhere 2012 ;).

Does the "Eastwood Ravine" is the only sign shown in the 3rd movie?
I think the others 2 nammed are only mentionned in the text.
Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong?

Buy 6" Tall Flat Reflective Street Signs

$42 for a standard street sign.
May be there's something to do there...

I'm asking a guy (in the US) to make me an aluminium sign with white border and lettering on both side:
One would be "Eastwood Ravine" the other side "Clayton Ravine".

size 6" by 24".

would the real sign be stamped with raised letters rather than printed on vynil

What do you mean by real sign?
The movie prop or a real US sign?
I guess the real one was a painted piece of wood or whatever.

The guy tell me it would be around $40 + $5 shipping.
Sadly I'm in Europe and the shipping cost due to its length would be a lot more so I give up.
The other solution is everyone order form an official sign maker web site. Couldn't be more official, but costly for sure.

Thanks! :) Yes, looks good and seems to be accurate. And the thickness of 0.003 inch is also good - it has the same thickness as a regular paper sheet.

Before I order it, I'm waiting for my silver ink. First I want to try out, how the stamp works on any other plastic.

I got the blue sheets and toner delivered today. These 0.003 sheets are too thin for a laser printer. It will have to be a thicker plastic to be able to print correctly without melting. :cool

well if i was paying that id want it like a real u.s street sign

if youre happy with vynil im sure someone local can make it and stick it on some wood or something

The blue plastic didn't work, so my new plan is to switch to clear inkjet/laser transparency sheets. I'm going to print the blue color onto the sheets with an inkjet, then print the graphics in black with my laser printer.

Aren't these sheets for inktjet only or laser only (not for both at the same time)? I only have a color inktjet printer, and the sheets I use have a somewhat "grainy" side for the ink to stick onto (if you use the smooth side, the ink won't fixate at all). But these sheets can not be used in a laserprinter (they would melt). On the other hand, I have sheets for a laser printer, but these are smooth on both sides (and can't be used in the inktjet printer). I've never sheets that can be used in both laser and inktjet printers (but this doesn't mean they don't exist, off course).

"3M CG6000 Multipurpose Transparency Film" will work with both inkjet and laser printers. It's the only kind I know of that will. I ordered a pack and I should have it tomorrow so I can try printing the receipt again. Hopefully my foil will be here by then also. :unsure

This was my first plan: print blue color on a regular transparent sheet. The advantage: I don't need to order it, because I already have it in my home office. But I don't want to use an inkjet for that. I think a color laser printer is a better solution, because its paint is water resistant.

After you had determined, that the blue sheets don't work, I will change back to my first plan.

My laser printer only prints black, so I'm going to try the toner foil method and print the blue background color first using my Epson inkjet printer. I will then print the text and graphics on the opposite side of the sheet with the laser printer. :cool

I got the transparency film today. So far it looks good. I printed a test page with the blue background on the inkjet side and the graphics and text on the laser side. I didn't quite get the alignment just right on this first sheet but it still turned out ok.

I don't have the toner foil yet, but it shouldn't be too much longer before it arrives. :unsure

Why do you try to align the borders? Isn't it easier to print the blue an inch wider so it will overlap with the black borders? You're alignment will be always correct in that way, no? (in the end you're cutting that part anyway).

The blue actually is printed wider to overlap each side, but I mistakenly printed the black layer upside down.

I almost forgot to mention this, but some inkjet printers will not be able to detect the transparent sheet and won't print it by itself. Put a sheet of copy paper behind the transparency sheet and carefully tape them together at the leading edge so they are perfectly aligned.

Just got the foil. Here is a test print.

It's still a little rough because I can't get the foil to lie perfectly flat on the transparency when I run it back through the laser printer. I may have to use tape on the leading edge of the sheet again.
