ALIEN Warrior head refurbishing project.....

People who want this alien head may think I'm preventing them from getting one by posting my concern about this. That I'm standing in their way of enjoying their hobby.
Ok.....
That was meant only concerning if you had made casts available without the go-ahead from Ian. Not with the current status of things. There are no issues now regarding the alien head being offered.

The work you put into this is top notch. I know it may not mean much coming from me, considering the protesting I did in your thread. And, as mentioned before, I'm cool with it if the staff deletes my posts to clean up your thread, now that things are okay'ed.

No worries man, I understand your position. Im pretty thrilled that Ian gave his consent because (and you may remeber this) I agreed to resculpt the upper teeth since that was his work and I wanted everyone satisfied.
I dont mind all the discussion on this thread, much of it was very informative. Plus it gave the thread some "character" lol

It wasn't until I saw this specific picture that I realized just how... phallic the Alien heads are.

That's cool.

Since you are on a roll with the refurbishing. Are you planning on adding a neck to the piece? I think someone asked previously. It would certainly set it apart from the previous offerings.

And we have some molds! Just got my head back, went off without a hitch. Im really glad the glossy texture was captured by the silicone and now that awesome beetle-shell look will be on the casts as well. They need a bit of prep but im happy:)

The teeth have their own silicone "puck" that is held in place when the sides are clamped together.

Looks fantastic! I can't wait to see the project completed.

Yeah man, me too! And thank you, im glad it turned out so well.
Fixing to pull a fiberglass test cast tonight if I done have to go anywhere. I really should wait for my epoxy but im just a hella impatient guy:)

How to determine whether or not you are recasting (in the negative sense of the word) is very simple.

It doesn't matter how much work the recaster puts into the piece.
It doesn't matter if the quality of their recasts are fantastic or total junk.

It all comes down to permissions.

1. Did the person you got the item from grant you permission to mold it?
2. Did the person you got the item from get permission from the person he acquired if from to sell it to you in the first place?

That person offering copies either has to have permission from the person they acquired it from, or it has to come directly/indirectly from a studio source.

.

I see this all the time and I have yet to make sense of it.

By that logic If I sell you a copy of something with studio linage - you can recast it without permission? No?

You can always upload your photos here using our Attached Files feature.

I'll give that a shot if there's any more issues, though there's not much to see other than more mold pics. I get my epoxy gelcoat tomorrow and thats when all the exciting stuff happens:thumbsup
I'll do a paint up of a cast and then move to the tounge on this thread me thinks.
