ALIEN: ROMULUS News And Updates!

Okay, so the story seems to be (spoilers ahead?)...

Some "kids" don't like their lot in life as part of the colony on Acheron/LV-426 and run away from home. They happen upon an abandoned space station that was researching the alien, and the hilarity... Err, horror ensues.

It could be done well, or this could go very, very wrong. Cautiously optimistic.

From where I stand from, it seems that they reverted to practical effects/sets/creatures, models, etc...some CGI peppered here and there and made a Sci-Fi action/horror movie ticking all the basic boxes. But, what about the story/concept? I'm hopeful for this one:)

Very cool. I only caught this briefly when it was first posted on youtube by someone else and then removed, then put back up by iO9. That makes more sense as to why they would have it!

One thing that always gets me, with this production and many others, is their emphasis on the use of practical effects (Hey kids, we did this practically!). The implication being that CGI is inherently bad and therefore practical effects are automatically good. They do realize there were plenty of bad movies made prior to the advent of CGI, right?

I wouldn't say that CGI is "inherently bad" or that practical effects are "automatically good"...Same as saying the contrary. It all comes to "how" the effects were done and "where" it was appropriate to put these effects in the shots, or a combo of both.;)

I’m excited too. It would be amazing if this turns out to be a good movie, and even better if it’s a great Alien film and story. Either way, I’m going in for summer entertainment just like I’ve done with countless James Bond films over the years. I (usually) know from the start, what I will get walking into the theater, whether the film is good or bad. It doesn’t matter if it’s formulaic, repetitive, or tired, because I expect that. It better damn well be, because I go to those films to see those very specific dopamine-flooding, memory-inducing plot points again and again. So do a lot fans ~
Bring on the facehuggers, shaken not stirred! :p

As someone who spent two years building a fullsize xeno in their living room I can tell you that I am not excited in the slightest, But I hope you and any others who plan to see if enjoy yourselves.

The main actress in Romulus, Cailee Spaeny, is 25, and I believe several cast members are older than Sigourney Weaver, who was 29 when she first starred in Alien. The majority of the original 90210 cast members were in their mid-20s to 30s as well.
There’s really no age limit on encountering aliens and attempting to survive. Aliens are not ageist. If that’s what is portrayed, and a few scenes of young people being young is not your jam, that’s cool.
I saw Alien and also Aliens on their release days. In fact, one of my first dates was seeing Alien, so maybe I’m sentimental in other ways too. Although I’m looking forward to this new film (action, effects, props), I am treating it as a stand-alone film that hopefully captures some of that same excitement. Either way, I think it will be fun, or silly, or both! My wife isn’t interested, so it’ll be just me, a bucket of popcorn, and some Red Vines. Maybe I’ll go all out and get edgy with some Good & Plenty too.
