1/72 scale ornithopter coming

That was fast. Waiting for CultTVMan to ship. They did have the Harlkonnen for pre-order.
Yeah, I wasn’t expecting to see it for a couple months. Actually built most of it today in a couple hours. The fit is perfect. I only had issue with one part that was so thin an a edge that after cleaning the nub and then glueing, melted it too much but a thin piece of plastruct and some extra thin cement fixed it. The whole thing will need next to no filler, maybe around the cockpit, but careful use of cement may make it unnecessary. The figures are some of the best I have ever seen. Through a mag the faces actually look like the actors. Gonna start painting tomorrow!

They are all wearing stillsuits too, that makes things a bit easier. LOL

I have just about finished this guy up. It’s a weekend build which is nice as all my other stuff on the bench are long painfull builds. I just need to do a sandy wash, put in the windows and it will be done. I will try to get a pic or two tomorrow. I just pressed my luck and ordered the Harkonnen version from China as well.

Some minor things left to do,but pretty done. Harkkonen is on its way. Probably be here next week if it comes as fast as this one.

I received the Harkonnen ‘Thopter on Friday and have spent an hour or two putting together the main fuselage today, As with the Atreidis I find the fit very good, so much so that if it’s not tight and easy to do it may be wrong as I found the rings around the ‘wing’ roots. Even though they look the same and are just mirrored they need to be the correct part. I have to also look at any reference as the only seems I might want to do minor work on may be actual panel lines. I’ll try to get a pic or 2 posted tomorrow. Definitely like both kits, easy builds, good fit and seem accurate for what we saw on screen. Paint is gonna be tricky as it says black and that makes sense, though the Atreidis was also black but I went with a very dark green.
I hope to see other builds soon!

Side note, Microsoft Flight Simulator added a Dune adventure not too long ago. They are quite fun to "fly" especially in VR, if such a thing can actually fly. LOL

Here are a couple more pics. The pic with the clearest shot of the instructions shows an error where both parts 20 and 21 are labeled 21. Not sure which is which to be used but neither fit in the orientation shown so I had to clip the tabs. Very frustrating because of course I tried to make them fit both before and after noticing the number error. Anyhow all that is left to build is the under cannon and spotlights and landing gear none of those will be added before paint. The canopy isn’t glued on yet as I will paint the interior firts and then glue it in and fill the gap as I did on the other one. There should be a line because it opens but my dumbass locked the wee passengers in the other one forever so will do this one to match.

So here it is with all but the wings and front search lights. They won’t be displayed next to each other in flight for sure! As with the Atreides version, the landing gear are the fiddliest bits to build and I only did the retracted sets. I am curious why I am not seeing more of these. They are nicely molded and go together perfectly, very little to no filler, but like Bandai ya gotta get every nub of the parts! Ideas on how to paint it black would be great! I am thinking a mottled nato black and pastel weathering, but not sure.

Nice! Easy build, the only issue I’d say to look out for is orientation of the wings. I assumed they were all the same like a dummy and once on the jointed peg they are nearly impossible to get of and once you do they lose the ability to lock so I have two that bend forward when I woosh it around! Fortunately I always wanted it in flight so it isn’t an issue. Have fun and post pics!

Looks like the small mecha kits have been successful enough to warrant a larger size Spice Harvester as well
Like the Ornithopter it is also getting an upscaled kit around 200x133mm (close to 8")
Best guess on scale is around 1/700
