1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - update page 5- added some boots

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

Looks awesome! I'd only hit his face with a little dullcoat. Looks a bit too shiney.

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

That is awesome! He is still my favorite Superman:thumbsup

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

Very nice Thomas. It's going to look pretty sweet once you have the correct boots.

When ya going to build General Zod? :)

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

It's kinda weird seeing Superman taller than Master Chief :)

Looking damned good though. I always liked the full body displays better than the torso ones.

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

Thanks guys.

Clutch: I will try and dull up Superman's face a bit.

Simmon M: Yea, I'm still looking for some boots. Boots would really make this come together. Zod... hmm.. I"ll build a zod when you commission someone to sculpt him... :lol

Hydin: Thank you thank you. As you can see all your wonderful crystals are being displayed. Thanks for that. They're really great. Master chief is currently a work in progress - as you can see he's slumped over... My armature for him is slowly breaking and collapsing. Plus i'm still waiting for some finishing armor parts. He'll be good and tall don't worry :)

Thanks to Simmon's help I was able to get past the "awe and excitement" of thinking that I was done with this project and realized that I have a ways to go. I will definitely need to pad out superman even more. Especially around the groin area :eek- and I need more padding around the chest area as well. Plus, I'll definitely need to smooth out some bumps which have arisen when things got shifted around while trying to add the legs. -sigh- well, back to work I guess.

Looks awesome. I like the pose you chose. Congrats.

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

A Zod sculpt would be awesome. I would probably kneel before it everytime I passed it out of fear...:lol

Great Superman!

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

It looks fantastic. Is there any way you can smooth out the lumps on the torso? Perhaps you can build up and smooth out the manaquin's muscles with some bondo.

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - massive update page 2 with pics

So I recently acquired a great costume: I was told it was made by the same people that made Cking's costume (thus making it one of the most accurate costumes available). I thank "rubert anglier" for making it a wonderfully quick/smooth transaction (A++)

MY GOODNESS - what a difference a the costume makes. After I ripped off the old costume on my display - I decided to repad all the muscles and everything. I even tried to emulate Chris Reeve's ribcage.

I'm going to for the Movieum in London "look" or the pose that is below. Hopefully I've done a decent job of it.

Looking back on it - I realize now that my previous display sucked big balls. The suit really does make a difference, and my padding job on my mannequin was a nightmare. I know some of you were trying to be nice - and "hinted" at the fact that my display looked lumpy... I suggest that from now on that you just come out and hit my head with a hammer... Being the guy who's looking at this close up for hours, I sometimes can't see the problems. So from now on.. HARSH CRITICISM ONLY! :rolleyes

Either way, I have some action costume boots coming.. They're in the works.. I'll hopefully be done with this display soon... and I'll be updating again with boots as soon as I get them.

Here are the pics:

Coming along quite nicely!

One of the things you can try to smooth out the chest is to get an inexpensive leotard, cut off the sleeves and put that on the figure under the costume, like a t-shirt. The extra layer should help smooth out the rough spots.

Also, a band of tape or material around the seam on the right leg where the leg connects will make that line disappear as well.

And, you may be able to rotate the hands. Carefully try to twist them. I believe you'll find they turn at the wrist, and you'll be able to get the more accurate hands on hips pose.

Looks GREAT!

This is looking great!

I agree with rotating the wrists slightly so the hands are positioned a bit more naturally. Otherwise this is a winner.

Paint those hands and get those boots! ;)

Yup, I agree with everything you said misterfusion. I will definitely try and smooth out the chest a bit. It's tough because i'm not using "conventional" things to pad out superman. I should really just be using foam and then I wouldn't have this problem. The extra t-shirt idea sounds like a plan. I see the right leg, it was slightly misaligned, after I realigned it the line went away on it's own.

The hands... yea.. the hands are really pissing me off. The way they designed this mannequin, when you rotate them, the angle of rotation is on a slant so while trying to twist the wrists so that the thumb is on top the hands won't fit against his sides anymore. I dunno. i think I'm going to have to take a saw to the hands...

They're either like this, the way the mannequin was designed.. which is a very bizarre position... (by the way, check out the iguana in the shower in the background :lol)

or they're like this, and then the hand won't even fit on the hip anymore

I did smooth out as many areas as I could (without a t-shirt) but I think the t-shirt idea is a better way to go.

Yea, I wouldn't call it "work" i'm just setting up a display for the work that was really done by the members here. In this case, the head by howard and action costume's costume. Putting together the mannequin is a pain in the ass but I'm not doing a full sculpt like some of my heroes here like Dullam... those guys sculpted reeves entire body accurately, I'm just padding.

Hummm.....perhaps too much triceps !!!

Fred

Fredo2x - Yup - you're right - too much tricep on the right side. I adjusted it in the pictures above... Hopefully it looks a little better. :confused

Yes sir! hahaha. I told you I would, and I will :).... and I'd like to take this opportunity to publically thank you (and as you know I secretly hate you for it.. :rolleyes) for getting me into all of this in the first place. your collection was always inspiring.....

Wait in line cuz I'm boosting them first! LOL!

He has the absolute best Blade displays I've seen ...

Great - now everyone is coming over to steal *****.... well, I guess I should feel honored... thanks guys :)

You should secure your collection in a hidden underground room, just to be safe. :D

Looking good man!!!!

Hell of a costume, and a hell of a padding job. If you could take some pics of the padding, it would be greatly appreciated. I am one day hoping to get a Superman costume (tried lorbonray, and besides being out 250$ bucks I got nothing :angry ), and padding out a mannequin myself.

I know he is pretty tall, but have you given thought to a base for him yet? Something like a carved foam base to look like it's part of the fortress floor? You could set up some pedestals on the sides and in front to show off the crystals :)

It looks awesome dude, you did a great job on it!

Hey Chris,

No foam base yet - my ceiling in my prop room is a little too short - I'm building an extension so maybe after I finish with that and move superman over to the extended part.

your crystals are already displayed with superman - see page 3 of this thread, towards the bottom - your crystals are all there. I'm changing the pedestal to a white one soon.

One thing - I'm going to need more crystals soon - because when I was padding out superman - I knocked over a bunch of the crystals and they fell on the floor -and three of them shattered!!! :cry:cry:cry
I love those crystals though - I'll have to get more from you.

the padding - hmm.. okay here's my secret. I'm using plastic shopping bags from walbaums and keyfood!.. hence the lumpiness of the muscles sometimes.. I try to smooth it out as much as I can -but it's pretty hard because it's not foam or anything. Can't take a picture of it because all the bags are "loose" underneath the suit.

Re: 1:1 Superman lifesize Reeve display - update page 3- totally revised

Yeah, that thumb is a problem...

Maybe you could try rotating the arms back and positioning the hand on the back of the hips as opposed to the front? Maybe?

Also, I'd pull all the slack, starting at the cuff and smooth the sleeves all the way up to the shoulders. You'll lose the gathering at the elbow and won't have so much pull at the armpits.

Oh, and here's a quickie base I built many moons ago for my Reeve cape:

supercape.jpg

Box is framed with 2X4 and covered in 1/4" ply. The ridges are 1X2 & 1X3 then texture coated, painted white with a slight blue overspray, sealed and then dusted with some fake plastic snow.
