1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Smooth-On is a US based company that I keep hearing good things about on this forum. Their roto casting resin is called 65D :thumbsup

Basically, plug all but one end of the pipe structure and pour in enough resin to coat the inside. Plug the pour hole and rotate the whole thing around for three or so minutes until set.

Vasaline works well as a release for whatever you use as the plugs so you can get them off again.

Roto casting resin has an extremely high tensile strength and is used for thin walled parts (and helmet/armour making if this forum is anything to go by :lol).

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

No major updates... I needed a day off from the building and to be honest... the heat is just unbearable and takes so much out of me... yes, I'm over 40. :) But I did do a little dressing up of the console. Nothing permanent yet, I just enjoy sdeeing how it looks - I'll hold off doing any greeblie untill I add all the lighting. Enjoy

Hi Gang,

Is there anybody who has a metal lathe and a CNC machine or both? There are a few objects I would like to create and I dont have the tools to do it. I would be willing to pay for time / material.

Thanks!

Greg,

Email me and let's talk about what you need. I have some metal shop connections we can use.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I saw this at work last night and thought it would make an awesome greeblie. It's a WABCO ABS brake controller. Unfortunately they're several hundred dollars, so never mind.

I was also thinking about mounting the yokes so they could be manipulated. Maybe mount them at an angle through the dash like the steering column on a car, with an inner/outer sleeve arrangement so you could push/pull and turn them. But what you have going is more screen reminiscent. So really, I've been completely useless here. :cry

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey Gang...

OK... seriously... I want as many opinions as I can get... I'm considering replacing the static dull mosaic blue and white tiles with actual illuminated blue and white push buttons.

I figure I will need approx:

45 white - $90.00
25 blue - $30.00
5 yellow (cant find grey) - $8

$128 total... This doesnt include the LEDs - but those are relatively cheap.

If I do this, I will be forced to redesign/modify the console back boxes based on the depth of the buttons along with several other mods that might occur.

Here is a link to the buttons I've found on Ebay. I would really like your opinions not only on the redesign, but the buttons I've found as well. There are several different functional buttons as well...

What do you guys think?
