Yesterday I received the long awaited Wand Company Tricorder (an early Christmas present to myself!) from England. Ironically, I was just in London a few weeks ago and tried to visit their headquarters but they told me that it was just not possible since most of the employees worked from home. I also tried to purchase a tricorder while I was there and I was told via email that I would just have to wait like everyone else and purchase one on Amazon. What really surprises me is the wait on these. If I remember correctly, they were originally set to be released back in September and then that date was pushed back to the first quarter of 2025 and here we now are in the second quarter. In any case, I decided to take some photos of it with my Science Scanner prototype since there a question a while back as to whether or not it would fit inside the main compartment:
And just for grins, here it is with my medical scanner. I think it's a little too wide, but regardless, it fits...and yes I compartment closes just fine with either scanner inside:
Considering the extra weight, a lollipop may be a better substitute.
Here it is next to the Diamond Select version with both scanners in the foreground. The toy is just slightly taller than the Wand version. The very bottom of it is where the extra length is. Other than that, I think Diamond Select did a very good job replicating the original Tricorder. My original idea was to machine aluminum parts for it, but I never got around to doing it:
