Score of my lifetime. SL ANH Vader face mask.

Great pic.You can see how much sharper the SL is in every detail. And it looks really bigger. But its normal that a ROTJ mask is smaller as a ANH.The VP is also some mm smaller in some areas.Could you post some dates about the size?Would like to compare it with my EFX ANH and my CFO cast.

The SL is bigger for sure. The CFO is authentic but authentic to the ESB molds which makes it further away from Muirs original sculpt then the SL which is authentic strickely to ANH, thus the size difference. I always thought the ESB/ROTJ masks were smaller due to being recasts of the screen ANH. With that said both masks share a crap ton of exact geometric shapes and curves. There is no doubt both are authentic and stem from Muir's sculpt. They just have been sourced from different molds/casts from different time periods in the history of Vader production.

What do you mean by dates?

Size seems about right, not much signs of shrinkage which is common for silicone. The reflection off the eight cheek seems to possess the same lumps in the general viscinity as the SL suggesting not much cleanup.

And the fact i just found out cfo has some pretty good lineage.

XD

That's a bit of an understatement. :D

The CFO originates from the same UK mold as the TM. Mark did a stellar job making his molds and sourcing his pieces to finish the helmet.

I was just alerted to this thread,Great score on the SL.And after reading through I started to think sithlord was on here LOL.You know he may have health problems, don't think he would just vanish.

Well, to put a bit of resolution to the SL issue, I have finally received my refund. December 5th would have been 1,000 days since I paid. I received a $100 refund last year (with no communication for over a year now) and after contacting his employer yesterday, received an email and the remaining majority of the refund plus consideration for wait time and interest today. My part of this saga is over and resolved. Thomas and I exchanged pleasant emails and I have put this behind me. I wish I could have gotten the helmet contracted and promised to me, but am happy to be moving on. I am happy to see them in other people’s collections and feel better now knowing Thomas has made steps towards resolving the situation.

Congrats on getting it resolved! We can say the SL is dead and out of production.

But the DJ on the other hand isn't! You should get in on that! When funds allow it I'ma try for a dome to go with my SL mask.

Glad you got it worked out Chris

With the talk of "original" and "casts" I do believe there was only one original- the clay sculpt done by Muir.

He states that after he finished the clay sculpt he handed it over to the plasterers to cast in plaster.

If this is all correct then the mask used for the 1977 film costume was two steps removed from the original sculpt, being cast from the plaster cast.

I think the people using the term "lineage" are on the mark- it's a lineage of casts of casts of casts (and so forth). Yes one can study provenance and get as few generations removed from the original as possible, but none are the original.

Does the clay original survive? Or was it destroyed in the plaster casting process? Do any plaster casts survive?

I wonder if the asymmetry seen in the casts was present in the original clay sculpt, or if it occurred in the plaster casting process, or if it occurred when the costume piece was cast from the plaster cast.

You can have the original sculpt but what most see as "the" original is that original mask and helmet(cast) that was used in the film. I'd rather have lineage to that than the original sculpt. There's sooo many traits in that cast that's not part of the original sculpt. Although it would be cool to have one of each. ;)
