Building The ANH 5'Millennium Falcon

Something like this can't be measured in dollars and cents because the end result will be a priceless replica that will be worth 10 times the cost of construction.

And you can count me in on a build of this scale....once I win lotto. :)

Hi guys, hi Stu mate.

You are really brave to start your build with the cockpit mate! I am sure your measures of the cockpit are correct as you have done a very thorough work with all the kit parts at hand. I had the 6" diameter measure idea before, so now I have a bigger part to scale the whole ship thanks to the cockpit study you have done.
As soon as I have time I'll check my blueprints and I will start my build by the mandibles.
Here is a pic of the cockpit side mandible donor parts resin casts I have made, all thanks to you that lend me the Ferrari 312B and Panther parts for me to make molds of them, thanks pal, you rock!!

Hi Rod, I don't know about brave starting with the cockpit, stupid maybe, seeing as it turned out to be a nightmare working out everything, but hey, it's worked itself out & I'm happy all the details tie-in.

I'm trying real hard to get in as much time to construct the cockpit, but as you know Rod, with all my families health problems, time is hard to come by.:cry
Anyhoo, I do plan to get the holes drilled this weekend & vac-form the cone at least!. Just didn't happen for me last weekend. Iv'e marked out alot of details on the tube & all looks good. I want to start plating the tube next week too.

As you know Rod all the kit parts will be coming your way for casting & won't be glued on as yet, just tacked in place for now.
Pic shows a smattering of the donors I've been using to place details/sizing etc... .

Those resin parts look terrific for your mandibles mate, well done.
I think next year we are gonna see some Falcon's truly emerge, a day long remembered for sure!:lol

Loving the work here you guys. I so need to get back into this one too. I'll wrap up the 3d side of my Narcissus contributions this weekend and get back into the Cygnus while I wait on the Shapeways stuff to arrive, and dip back in here. Gotta get into the shed and clear a space to pay out the parts I cut ages ago for my main hull disc, gawd, murder finding time...I have stuff, just need space and five minutes to actually whack the sod together, heh.

Simon, you are a flibbertigibbet! :lol (A will o'the wisp - a girl!!!!) :p

Well, a bit of progress!. I modified the cockpit cone buck somewhat to accomodate the new 5 3/4" tube size. It was made using my old 5 1/2" measures so needed extending.
2 vacuform styrene pulls were done at the same time. One in 2mm & the other in 0.75mm for the plating. I figured it would be much easier to form the plating rather than try bending it around the cone.

The 9 holes are also done & line up perfectly with the donor parts when placed on the tube.

Next step is marking out the cockpit windows & the underside plating.

It's gonna be a while before I can start building my own Falcon, and I have a few projects on the board, anyway; but, I was wondering if any of you knew where I could score some accurate drawings of the Falcon, so I can build my sub-frame, as an in-between project. I have found some top and side profiles, but I don't know if they are accurate, and they don't show the true curvature of the hull, beneath all the greeblies and platting... If I could find that, I could go ahead and build the sub-structure out of styrene, and hopefully be ready to add detail by the time I am done with my other projects. anybody know what I am talking about, that is willing to point me down the right road? (I'm not looking for a freebie, just accuracy.)

To the best of my knowledge accurate blueprints of the 5 Footer don't exist. If blueprints do actually exist, they would really need to be drawn by someone who has actually built a Falcon, using said blueprints to produce a credible replica.
I really don't know if a full set will ever be made public, not for a while anyhoo.

Myself & a few others are currently working on individual subsections of the Falcon & of course drawings are indeed drawn up at the time. My cockpit is one such example. Various line profiles & templates of all types have been utilised & of course the one truth to be sure, actual kit parts themselves!.

I'm finalising my cockpit window placement at the mo, before cutting out & also machining the front window. Should have these done by end of the week.

Thanks, Stu. It's disappointing, to be sure. The Falcon is such an icon, I assumed there would more references. I will keep searching, and if I find something substantial, I'll PM you about maybe posting it on your thread. Keep up the awesome work!:popcorn

Hey guys! I am driving myself nuts trying to transcribe donor kit names from various web-pages and images for the 5' SS Falcon model. And sometimes they are wrong... is there a list I can find that is as accurate as possible that I can just print out?!? I know that sounds lazy to all you veterans that have done the leg-work for yourselves, but I am just trying to simplify things. I have several things going on right now, and I am not wealthy... I hope to start building one of my own if a couple of years, but it will take me that long to collect the donors, so a sort of "grocery list" would be a great benefit to me. Thank-you! :)

Hi Cadeus. I'm at 2 minds when it comes to folks asking for a 'grocery list' of all the known donors from me. I used to quite happily give out my info readily, but after all the years of accumulating all the ref & kit list I can really see why folks are hesitant to do such.
I will help with individual kit part ID's, but draw the line at a complete kit list. I know I said at the start of this thread 'no secrets' & I mean that, but just not a full kit list!.
Nick's Falcon ID thread is the one stop shop for most of the ID's anyhoo mate, just need to trawl through it all as I have done countless times. Even today, I found an ID for a part I didn't know, just had to hunt a bit for it.
I will help any other way I can, just ask mate.
Stu

Well, today I got tired of working on the cockpit cone & got to thinking, man, I really want to glue some donors together, so here's what I got up to for a few hours distraction time:lol

Joe, thanks for the 'chopped up' Ferrari 312b part you found earlier, I looked hard at this part & cut said part to fit today, cheers mate!.
These ILMers really did go out of their way to make parts fit in odd places, this one took me about half an hour to get right:)

Stu

Ha, yeah, I glued the bonanza part on, well, I thought I had, till it fell off just before I was gonna attach the next part:rolleyes. Then thought, ah right, the damn painted surface. Problem solved:lol.

Thank's again, Stu. And no problem on the parts list. :) I completely understand your point... I am beginning to enjoy the hunt, anyway. I've got about twenty of the kits memorized, already, and the search is getting easier the more I look. Keep up the great work! :)

I cant agree more with this mode of thinking Stu.

Its great to see physical parts being laid out now bro, ya know i still may build that upper gun turret as a display, still got the kits i collected!
